You either have the wrong manifold or the linkage on incorrectly , if they are the right manifolds the linkage rod will not hit it .

This is starting to sound like there is a problem with the shift linkage and not the kickdown linkage. He said passing gear linkage originally so I'm assuming Throttle Valve linkage but I find it hard to believe that stuff could get in the way. Maybe there's a problem in the bellcrank area of his shift linkage.
Does that sound right ,Joe?

Don.

I'm not sure I'm calling this linkage by its proper termanology. I thought it was the passing gear linkage but it may be called the kickdown linkage. Anyway, I managed to locate the linkage from a '70 Chrysler and tried it. It doesn't hit or even come close to the exhaust manifold. Hip hip, horray!!!!
