When did they stop putting the tanks behind the seat? I looked at a 77 D 100 yesterday with dual tanks. The first was in the cab, the other was where I expected to find it. Everything looked factory. I was just surprised to find a tank in the cab that late in the 70s.

My Dad worked for a Canadian Chrysler dealership in the 70's. He had thought they stopped putting them in around the end of 74 but then I bought a 75 with one. They seem very rare after the mid 70's but I am guessing it was somewhere on the option sheet until the body style changed.

It was standard in 73. 74 they started putting them under the bed. My 74 is saddle tank. This is for Standard cabs. My 73 Clubcab had saddle but filled through the cab. I've had a 75 Cab that was in cab aswell. Its hard to really say when they quit or ran out. None of my 75 up trucks have ever had in cab tanks and I've owned over 40 and that's just in the last 12 yrs

Well, I didn't actually see the tank behind the seat. I caw the cap on the side of the cab and assumed there was a tank attached behind the seat. After reading the last post, I wish I'd looked closer.

Short cab, short wide bed.

I bought a new '74 W200, reg cab and long bed.

It had just one tank, underneath the truck, I thought that was the first year ... also a new '76, same thing.

My 78 D300, 73 W200, 75 W100 had a in-cab and a saddle tank.
My 73 D100 Cub Cab had a saddle tank but the filler tube went through the cab.
My 73 D100 SB only had a cab.
My 80 D150 only has a saddle tank.

Dual tanks with a factory switch, yes. One fill cap on the cab, the other to the front of the bed, same side. Someone suggested that the cab fill tube might run to a saddle tank instead of a tank behind the seat. I'd not thought of that. I didn't look behind the seat for a tank. I just thought it was there, and might have been. I don't know.

My 78 D300 had the in cab tank, since it was a cab & chassis. The regular frame tank wouldn't work on these trucks, one needed the left side of the frame open for a trans mounted pto (to power the hoist) and the other side for exhaust.

I used a rear tank from a 77-78 club cab shortbed truck when I restored mine. The donor truck was dual tanks, one in the standard frame location, the 2nd one in the rear where the spare tire would be.

I had a govt BLM power wagon crew cab, and it had dual tanks, one in cab, and one in fram in the usual spot. My truck was an 80...so I am guessing special placement per the feds...
