Im kicking around the idea of tubular k along with tubular LCA's and UCA's.
I see Bondo bobs stuff looks nice, and i know there is huge debate on whose system is best and who's is junk.... I don't want to hear that.

I am wondering, can i start small, replace the control arms, and remove the t bars, then at a a later date move to the k frame.

Ideally I want a tube k, with a mustang II rack, tube uppers, and lowers with some nice coil overs. But i don't have 4k to throw at it right now.

so how do i start small???

I am under the impression i must go to tube uppers to clear any coil over. and once i have the coil over in, something different has to be done to the lower to remove the torsion bar for good. I don't know, just what i was told a while ago.

so maybe i should start by asking, " what must be done to eliminate my torsion bars"??

If your gonna change everything just buy a streetrod frt clip and set the frt end where you want it lower/higher. and the street rod stuff won't cost you a left n&!. I could have bought a whole frt clip last year minus the rotors and coilovers for $900.00 just didn't want to go that way.

Here's an option I've just run across. I have no idea of the quality.

if you're in need Robert give Comp Chassis a call in Glendale. Mike fabbed up my tube K for the Duster. They did work on our old car so I didn't even think twice on who to go to with the Duster.

To simply remove the torsion bars. On the lower control arm you can make a rear support collar that goes around the socket the torsion bar slides into. You still need a coil over shock with mods to the shock tower to stiffen it up. Unless you want to ride on the stops.

Not to hi-jack but, would this bar tied to the firewall, welded to the cage, frame rail and shock tower have enough support to run the front coil-overs?

It wouldn't scare me.

That wouldnt bother me either... BUT on the street
I would had a bar(maybe 2) on either side of the tower
down to the lower frame rail for added strength..
put them in on a angle to follow the tower.. but thats
just me... I know for the street you want added strength
at least on Mich roads(they suck big time)... I worry
about my strut suspension on our roads

On my 64

We had Tube A-arms , upper and lower ..

Made a piece to support the lower A-arm

Ran a "stock" K-frame , trimmed a bunch

Qa1 coil overs ..

and way stiffer than recommend springs , had to ..

long story ..made most of it ourselves ..

Had to re-engineer a bunch of what a kit someone sold me , it was poo, he no longer is in business

it all looked good but , would not work like he thought ..so, we tossed most of it away ..

After a couple months working on it off and on, worked like a champ

I'm not 100% sure there is a bolt and go set up out there now

(alterkation looks like best option but , its $$)

Bobs stuff seems like it works right too, but again ??.never bought so, don't have 1st hand knowledge of it

I do think you can improve on stock but .. ??

Here is the car once we got it working right

I started out small by just replacing the upper controll arms and added coilovers and left the stock lower controll arms in place untill later, as far as the torsion bars, I just removed them and then drilled and tapped the mounting stud that go's into the K member inside the hex hole where the front segment of the T bar was and used a grade 8 bolt and a thick washer that just fit the hex hole and loctited it into place,,ran it that way for years untill I was able to afford to replace the lower controll arms and radius rods, I am still using the stock K member to this day, yes it's been lightened some and modified to fit my oil pan.

Unfortunately those pic's were lost in a computer crash sometime back, but if I can help, just ask and I will try and walk the OP or anyone else thru what I can remember.
