I have a 74 Duster that I'm rebuilding the front end (suspension) on and I was replacing the idler arm when I noticed the new Moog idler is a different shape (more S shaped) . Does this super seed the original part ? I've checked a couple of suppliers and I come up with the same part number that received . Thanks

Different aftermarket suppliers' idlers look different. I have seen some that have square cross section and look angular. Whereas the Moog was a round cross section and more S shaped.

You are fine. Run that good Moog idler.

FYI... some aftermarket idlers for 73-76 A-body have a plastic/urathane/delrin? inserts as bearings instead of the mood metal to metal bearing. The Moog is much better, last longer, more precise. I had on of those plastic ones and it got loose in less that 10K miles.

The Moog idler is on the bottom

The zerk fitting is in a bad place.I had to cut a notch on the bracket to keep from busting the zerk on my 74 duster.

I'll try and post some picks tonight but my concern is if you look straight down at the original idler as it would be mounted on the car the mounting points are parallel to each other but with the Moog idler the mounting points are off set by probably an inch and a half . I know the new pat will mount on the car but it seems to me the steering will be limited in one direction .

The real geometry is the imaginary line between the bushings. Which way the arm/connecting link goes doesn't really matter unless it hits something. A check to see if you have a mis-boxed arm is if the center link is not level to the chassis.

You might even have one for a /6. The ones for a V-8 had more of a longer drop or 'dip" in the "S." It's to clear the oil pan without rubbing. Some people forget to change when they convert to a V-8, then run into some problems. They might have mis-boxed your part.

That is incorrect.

67-76 A-bodies get the same pitman, centerlink, idler arm, tie rods if they are /6 or small block. [edit] 68-72 /6 & smallblock gets a different centerlink, pitman, and idler than 73-76 like Gmachinedart noted. 67 /6 & smallblock A-body has a different idler (stud mounted) than the 68-72 setup.[/edit]

383 cars get different idler and in 67 a different pitman. Both of which Moog does not sell.

Please do not get taken by the crooks trying to sell you a V8 centerlink for your 67-76 A-body

Only 63-66 A-bodies have a different centerlink /6 to V8.

67-72 Had one centerlink, 73-76 different centerlink. I agree they they were all the same across engine options.
