Ok Im looking for a Np435 Bellhousing for a slant. Got a gay that says he has a Bellhousing from a 68 with a Np420. I've never heard of the Np420. Plus aren't the 62-71 hydraulic clutches? If not all are is it the same Bellhousing?
I want to build a slant six powered 4spd 4wd. Figure with the Np435 and 4.1-4.56 gears and 33" tires it'll be a neat little trail rig. Oh and I want to use a Ramcharger frame with a clubcab cab. Not sure on a box yet. Thanks

you have a GAY?

never heard of a 420 for-speed,but have heard of 420 for weed

I thought all sweptline trucks had hydro clutch.

clubcab/RC/short bed 4x4 running a /6 granny tranny turning 4.56 gears with 33" tires.

sound like it might do some scratching with no problems.

I've an NP420 sitting in my backyard.

It's a cast iron granny low 4 speed with no synchro in Second (or First) gear.

It needs a 5.125" hole to fit into.

The bolt pattern is two on each side, one pair on top and one pair in the middle. The passenger side lower hole is a little farther out from center.

Look it up online, it has a pretty low First. I don't like it because Third is in the 1.7 range so shifting down going up a hill puts the engine into "screaming" mode.

The bellhousing between the 420 and my Poly 318 is 8 3/16" deep, face-to-face. It has about a million holes in the block side, supposed to bolt up to flathead 6, A/LA engine, possibly the slant 6 as well.

The hydraulic clutch uses a slave cylinder bolted to the passenger side of the bellhousing. It is a very simple setup, no mechanical linkage to get messed up. The master cylinder is the same as the brake M/C on the older Sweptlines.

If I can figure out how to get pictures off my iphone, I'll post some.

One thing for sure, the NP420 isn't a high dollar transmission, but it is pretty stout.

I dont plan to use the 420. Im going to use a 435. The guy that has the bell said he believes its the same as the 435. Im just wanting a Bellhousing to bolt a slant to a Np435.
Thanks for the info

Not for sure on the np420 bolt pattern, but I think it shares a pattern with the 435. As far as the hydro clutch in the sweptlines, they were hydro through 68. In 69 they went to a mechanical linkage like the 70's era trucks.

I can't remember exactly but I have a bellhousing on my 440 that came from a 400, 2wd truck with a NP 420 or 421 transmission. First is in the high 3.? or low 4.? and it's heavy. But it bolted up to my 435 no problem.

No, it was a NP445, also called NP4530.

The 420 had a 6.something first gear and was only synchroniazed in Third and Fourth. I think it disappeared aftar about 1968.
