I was thinking about moving the rearend back about one inch or so in my 72 dart to gain some tire clearance in the front of the tire. Some of you guys have talked about this in some of your posts. What is the easy way to do this, get custom springs, make the front mount longer and change the back? What is the best way

An inch is a lot; minor movement can be accomplished using a spacer between the front spring-eye bracket and the chassis.
Remember you'll be drawing the front driveshaft yoke out of the trans, reducing its spline engagement and putting more stress on the front u-joint. If the problem was one inch, I'd cut the front of the wheel-opening; preferably a pie-slice and touch it up or blend the paint below the bodyline. Second best is a really good & big pair of shears, then smooth & touch up the edge.
The spacer can be one piece, slotted to slide up from the bottom. Note the 4 bolts are not symetric; make a pattern first. I did this on a Duster where I needed 3/8".

I moved the rear back on my 67 Valiant 1", I did it when I was going from a 7.25 to 8.75 so it didnt cost any extra to do it.

I just redrilled the holes in the perch 1" forward of the stock hole and bolted the rear in like stock and had the driveshaft cut down 1.25" instead of 2.25".

If you're running the stock tank the rear gets pretty tight to it, I took the pad off it and was able to slide it back about 3/8".

No problem with 1". It's been done many times. I drill holes in the relocation boxes for std, std 1" lower, 1" back std height, 1" back 1" lower.

Make sure the DS is proper length.

I know some guys that have A bodies with rears moved back 1.5"

Yeah sometimes you have to alter the front edge of the well or move it back...

I have to change the rearend out anyway, but that is the main reason I was wanting to do it is to center the wheel in the wheelwell and give me a little more room in the front of the tire.

How thick of a spacer can you get away with when doing this? I would like to move mine back as well on my 70 Dart.
