Well I took the Warlock out for a ride today for the first time in about 3 weeks and had two issues. When I stopped at the store and then got back in the truck it wouldn't start again. Then when I finally got the 318 started I noticed a ticking sound a I drove home. When I got home and popped the good there was an obvious ticking sound from the left valve cover.

So I'm thinking the Warlock is on the injured reserve list until I can get the starter and valves look at. Anyone have any other thoughts on what it could be?

It's a hell of a shame that she's out o commission since its sick nice weather ou this week.

Got oil pressure?
If you really flooded it when it wouldn't start, you may have a lot of gas mixed in with the oil. I would change the oil and filter, also, pull the valve cover off the offending side to be sure a push rod isn't missing (they bend pretty easy when the oil pressure is low). If all is good with the push rods, run it and see what happens. Seldom do the valves just go bad, they usually get there slowly, and bad valves usually don't have lifter noise included. Gene

Thanks for the input guys. I forgot about the lifters and I bet that is what it is. Especially since the truck isn't puffing white smoke or burnin oil.

bad/sticky lifters or burnt valves dont cause a smoking problem... Worn valve guides, rings, leaking intake manifold gasket or flooding it will cause it to smoke...

I am truckless..
