NICE!.............Tell us more.........weight, heads cam etc...........

1970 duster, 2600+ pounds, a set of Edelbrock heads he ported himself while Tom Hemphile gave him pointers, SOLID LIFTER cam, tunnel ram with two 750 holley, powerglide with 1.80 gear set, 14-32's, not sure on cubic inch but its under 500 and a stock block. He's almost always in the 8.80-9.00's at an average 1400-2400 corrected alt track.

BAD AZZ....................How fast would my 9.79 translate to at that weight by chance..........

The old 100 pounds equals .010 works out pretty good if the car hooks.

I know of a black 70 Cuda( about same weight) that ran 9.0x, with just BIBA heads( doubt they flow as much air as big block eddies do) with a 3.79 crank that he raced forever. Many guys on here saw it run as he raced at the Mopar events with it for a long time. Currently has a w8 smallblock in it and has been at least 8.70's, if not quicker as I haven't seen it yet this season, but I am sure it will be at Norwalk, and was probably at Indy with it.

I finally picked up my spare 500 dollar 9 inch ford yesterday. Man what a deal. axles, spool, 4:30 gears, housing, aluminum center section, rotors, and two sets of calipers.

Will I'll have to offer my when I ran a small block W2 340 in Denver it would beat most of the big block Mopars back in the 80's Fast forward to 2000 Dakota pickup super charged 360 best it ran 10.60 at 125 mph before it went boom. Put in a big block ran 10.12 at 135 it had a mild cam in it at the time say what you want but when you have lot's of cubes with very little head flow makes for a disappointing outcome. Still have that same big block just more cam runs 8.69 in my car I under stand the small block verses big block been on both sides but will stay with the big block.

best so far 8.53 @ 158.59 MPH 60'1.240

I built a 408 sb and ran it for 5 or so years. Those stroker small blocks definitely run good. When I first built this engine, I built it to run 12.0 or just a click faster.
Well my first pass was 11.77 with street tires, and got down to 11.0's eventually. So, yes these small blocks definitely run good.

BUT, nowadays it is just cheaper to build a big block and still make more power.

I think I will stick with my BB. Was a SB guy back in the 80's-90's when we had few choices for good heads. So the best options I saw was a SB with W2's. The early 90's we switched to our first B1 deal and it ran well, well enough to make a few paperweights out of stock blocks. BUt I will say I have been a BB guy since the mid 90's, not that I wont go back but would take something special to make that happen, or a switch to Comp Eliminator which I don't really see in my future since I don't play the lottery.

I gotta say I love them both but it kills me with the Daytona sitting here and the 572 sitting on the engine stand. It only had 10 passes on it in 2010 when I wrecked the Daytona so i will freshen it up this Winter and install the B1 heads and put it in either the Daytona if I finish it or the Duster. The Duster is only certified to 8.50 with no updates in the works. I bought a alcohol system a few months ago so it may be put to use. I haven't payed for race gas since 2010 an it would kill me to pay that much to race every week.

It's a strange thing I've found and just got used too, that if you turn up with your small block even thou your carving up the field, the crowds always gather around the big block cars. Its just one of those things

I was a guest at a track rental by a local car club. My '66 was running low 15's and a guy with a '70 Nova called me out. He had been bragging about the LT-1 he had.

I put a gate job on him and beat him about 5 cars. He came up in the pits and told me I had a good running 318. He crapped his pants when a buddy opened my hood for him and showed him the Slant. To add insult to injury he hoped in his car and it wouldn't turn over.

No one has seen him since.

when I was running the dart. a lot of the old timers thought it had a hemi or a big block. when I opened the hood to show them a small block they did not even want to talk to me maybe because it was faster than there 11 or 12 sec 500+ cid big block 727 turd now that I have racing the BIG BLOCK GTX o by the way 10.90 turd these guys want to be friends now has any buddy experience this type of behavior from the old time big block club

I get it regularly. One look at the "Land Yacht" and everyone thinks it must have a big block in it. Even the name sez big block.

I've got a big block that runs 9.30-40's and a small block that runs 9.50's and really like both setups. The car and motor I built for my Mom is a all steel, all interior Duster 366" pump gas that runs 11.0's. All the Mopar guys around here are stuck in the past and none of them ever really ask me about my combos.

People get irked over all sorts of stuff, even when you do run a big block. Apparently it's not "allowed" to run mid 10s with a pump-gas street car you drive to the track that's still got a stock-stroke 440 crank, a flat-tappet cam, standard-port heads (not MW), and scales at 3700+ lbs on the track scale. And then you pass them on the drive home.
