Greg I need to get a new gasket set for my oil filter adapter... on your P/N SFP-340-KS... how thick is the larger gasket(the 4.5" one)... I'm having issues with it sealing... seems that the center is bottoming out without much compression on the outer gasket... but the gasket I have is maybe .020 thick thanks

Thanks... I went over to Mancini's and picked up 2 sets... I'm having a issue between your gasket and the machined area on the block... the OD of the gasket is too large or the recess in the block is machined too small.. if I try to stick it in, it wants to mound up .. looks like one or the other is maybe .050- .075 too small or to big diameter wise... I trimmed the OD on your gasket to get it to fit

Mike, Thats a common problem on the small blocks when you re-use the oil filter diffuser plate, the center of the plate, where the thru bolt goes, after time, looses its tension, and goes from a convex posture, to a concave posture. Its the only thing really putting pressure on the gasket to seal it . You can flip them over, take a solid shaft ( aluminum scrap) and press them backwards about .050-.060, and it will put some prelaod back in it. If you push it .050, it will relax back about half that. The other obvios solution is use an aftermarket solid plate, whis is much much better.I'm fortunate, as I have a ton of those plates around from teardowns, and I'd say about half of them dont prelaod the gasket well without tweaking. For the most part now, unless its a super duper budget deal, I just replace with a new Canton and make life easy...

Mike, I'll see if I can round up my old 340 block and get a measurement of that area.
Thanks for the feedback
How did everything else work out for you with that kit?

Does the small thick one go under the plate and the small thinner one under the hex head.... I couldnt use the small thicker one.... but its sealed up now

Thats correct Mike. Thick one is used to seal between adapter and block when your using the thru bolt sytle adapters.Thin one goes under hex head. If its just a plate and the threaded oil filter adpater, ( filter direct to block) , then not needed.

Thats the way I put it but wanted to make sure... I have to pull it back off... it still has a SMALL drip going on... plus the stupid foam intake is leaking (or it could be the sender)... I'm gonna check the sender first then the intake... just to make sure its not dripping down the back of the block.... this car HATES ME... but it runs good.. LOL

I cleaned it last night and fired it up to see.. it looks like I have 2 leaks... the filter base and the intake foam rubber... I'm headed out in a few to pull the intake and the filter... I'm gonna cut a .062 thick gasket for it... being I had to stack 2 intake gaskets for this block I thought that the foam was thick enough.. well it wasnt... I dont normally use those foams and just silicone it but it looked like a pretty big gap to silicone so I'll fix the rear foam with a thicker foam and some Right Stuff

If you have time, make some aluminum spacers and get rid of any of the foam. Countersink some screws and never a problem again.

I pulled the intake today and seen oil was running under the foam rear gasket... I redid it with Great Stuff on the block then put the foam on.. and let that set up.. then used silicone on the top of the foam then set the intake on and bolted it down.. then let that set up... I fired it up a few minutes ago and everything looks dry now... I only ran it 3 to 5 minutes but it was all dry... I'll let it totally dry and take it out tomorrow and heck it again... but I think it was the intake issue... I HOPE...I want to hit Woodward tomorrow if its sealed up

Thanks... still trying to get the oil out of the muffs.. I drilled a 1/8" hole in each to get it to drip out and the exhaust will help blow it out
