My 76 360 has a bolt with an oil hole in the upper left thrust plate.

79 360 doesn't. It had a solid bolt with an oil slinger on the bottom.

I broke the one with an oil hole.

Is it absolutely necessary to have this bolt with the oil hole? Where do I find one? I drilled one out but that leaves me short on the next motor.

Can I use the bolt with the hole AND the oil slinger?

it does not have to have the oil hole in the bolt.

oil slinger on the crank if you have it.

you also want the metal dip tab that goes on the lower thrust plate bolt.

I have not run one with a oil hole in the bolt for yrs.

I just use the drip tab and oil slinger.

I don't think it'll help. I had a factory oil cooler setup on my 87 Diplomat, 318 later 360. The cooler taps off the hole where the sending unit is, routes the oil thru the cooler then discharges into the timing cover thru a rifle drilled fuel pump mounting bolt, right into the chain. It didn't help with timing chain wear.
