My 69 383 4-speed GTS had a 3.23 open stock.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

Mine did but it had low profile duel fours on it too though. It was my first car.

Sure grip wasn't standard even with 4-speed. My 69 Cuda 383 4-speed was factory equipped with a 3.23 open rear.

My buddies 68 Cuda 383 four speed came with 3.91's and sure grip. I believe it came that way. Ron

For 68-9 A bodies with an 8 3/4 rear (i.e., not slant six):

The optional 3.55 and 3.91 gears were only available with Sure Grip.

With the standard 3.23 gears, automatic or 4/speed, Sure Grip was optional.

A bodies were not alone , this was standard across the board FOR PERFORMANCE CARS , except for maybe the multiple carb cars ???

Well, I was trying to limit my answer to what I know. But for 68-69 performance cars at least, I'd guess you're right. For earlier years, I think lower (higher numerically) gears were offered w/o Sure Grip. Especially in 7 1/4 rear cars (like a 64-6 V-8 A body).

For non-performance 68-9 cars, I'm not so sure. My literature shows you could get a 318 Charger in 69 with a 3.55 open rear. Wouldn't that have had an 8 3/4 rear?
