Just throwing something out here to think about. I had two instances where both a buddy of mine and me used a late(76-78) motor home block with the extra steam holes on 906 heads without the steam holes by the spark plugs and had terrible overheating problems. We swapped out the blocks and had no problem after that in both cases.

As I said before a few friends did the Big block 4 row recored stock 22" and on every case needed a pusher electric fan to get the air to move through it to actually cool then all was fine.

Carb, timing and such all need to be tweeked.

wonder if the 4 row stock style rad makes it hard to pull air through?? Too much restriction and needs a pusher to help.

Lean? Timing issue? clogged passages? air bubble?

I'd be looking at these things, a stock 440 engine should idle happily with his setup and a 4 row radiator unless it's 130 degrees ambient temperture. The factory wouldn't have have sent it out the door if the 22" system was not adequate.

x2. If the timing is retarded it will be hotter especially on a new engine. Try giving it another 5-10° of initial timing, set up the ignition curve, and readjust the mixture settings. Sounds like retarded timing to me.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Some things to keep in mind . The thermostat controls the minimum temp of an engine , NOT the max !! Use a high flow thermostat and water pump on a RB mopar and make sure your carbs are not lean and you have around 15 deg initial timming. I run a 22in on a 500 ci sixpack and the car runs almost too cold ! You need a high efficiency core (talk to Glen Ray about this) and a fan shroud. I had one of those aftermarket radiators that would always overheat and it turned out to be the cap not holding pressure. Also, do not overfill , leave some room for expansion.

The modifications to the motor I would not constitute as major "souped" up.... When the car gets back from the body shop, I will get back to it and I do like the idea of a high flow thermostat with a 165 opening temp ( or there abouts ).... We will order a pusher fan, similar, if not, the same one on the previous reply ( thanks by the way, it is like the one on my Daytona ).

The ignition timing I can't remember off the top of my head, but I know it isn't extreme. There's no vacuum advance since this is a MSD system ( including the billet distributor ). The carbs are fresh reman's from Holley. I'll check a plug or two to see about mixture. The 22" with the .030 overbore should be fine... We just have to clear the cobwebs... All good input fellas, thanks....

PS: Regarding the water wetter and distilled water "Bandaid", it worked like a charm on my Daytona.....

I've posted this before, the 440 in my 62 wagon is .030 over,Isky cam,4 core 22" radiator,6 blade A/c pump, fixed 7 blade fan,shroud,180* thermostat, has never seen anything above 195* ever regardless of ambient temp, will idle as long as I let it and never goes above 185* at the thermostat housing checked with a gun,and it has A/C.
