Considering an engine builder to build me a stroker for my car. Coices are Hughes Engines, MRL (Michigan), and Indy cylinder head. Has anyone used any of the three to build them an engine? Looking for quality, price, and customer service, etc.I've talked to them but wanted to see what, if any, experiences you had with them. Mods can move this if not in the right forum.

Thanks for the input.

MRL is a fantastic shop. Mike will guide you through the process flawlessly and won't steer you wrong.

I know it isnt in your list, but you might consider Muscle Motors. They build some amazing stroker motors. I have been happy with mine so far, and i just have a base 451 stroker that they built. I can only imagine what they can do with a little more budget..

Based on reputation only I would put Muscle Motors on the list and leave Indy off. They make a great product but have a really bad (sorry, Josh) reputation for being service-oriented.
But if you live far from the Michigan area, there are other great builders out there.

Maybe consider Best Machine also.

Forgot about Muscle Maching and Best. Indy was the last of the three. Keep opinions coming guys, thanks so far When I talked to Mike, we discussed a 470 stroker. I was impressed

About ten years ago, I had my stroker short block built by Speedomotive. Only have 2500 miles on it in that time. No problems other than a rear main leak. If I had to do it today, however, it would be Muscle Motors.

There are several good choices on this board.Muscle Motors or Hughes would work as well.Muscle Motors did a shortblock for me years ago and Hughes has done several sets of heads/intakes for me.Hensley Racing is an option as well.
If you can try to pick a builder local to you so you can have someone to turn to if there are any problems.

If you do have one shipped to you have them do the complete motor from top to bottom so there is no question if something goes wrong.

UPDATE: I pulled the trigger and gave a builder the green light to build my dream. After some opinions and advice from you guys here on the forum, thats what I did. I had a couple of lengthy calls talking and finally did it. I have a vision in my head and the builders job is to put it on canvase. kinda like an artist. BUILD it Mike. I feel like an expecting father, can't wait for it . Thanks Mike!

Be sure and report back on your experience with the process, and again when you have it running. Good luck

I'm guessing MRL since he said ... Build it Mike ...

Yup. Had a couple of conversations with Mike and it was a pleasure to talk to him. So far, so good.

Mike's getting some good numbers. Solid choice.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
