Hi folks, I sold my Ramcharger project last winter and have been covered up as of late. What brings me back is this, there's a fellow who is interested in trading me a 64 A100 truck and cash for my 64 Polara project. At this point, we're both serious but neither have committed to do the deal. The biggest problem with the truck is, no motor and parts availability. Now I know I can put anything in it for a motor but I'll need to be reasonable about it. POs have cut out the bed floor with the idea of making a wheel stander. That's going to be a big repair. It looks like they cut out the back of the cab too. I know I'm dealing with a truck with great appeal but small parts availability. Any and all advice will be considered, I just need to bounce this deal off some like minded people. Here's a link to his ad. http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/3849713495.html

A lot of the pieces from the Dodge vans of the same years also fit the pickup....

That price seems high to me. I'd expect it to at least have all the parts to get it running at that price. I don't know your Polara, but those tend to be worth more in similar condition compared to an A-100 PU.

I see rust in the ID tag picture. This is THE thing to look for when getting one of these. I'd guess that in WV, you don't have a lot of rust free examples to choose from, but pay close attention to the bed area, especially down low on each side, the roof rail and wheelwells along with the front floor/step areas.

The floor and rear wall are going to have to be fabbed or sourced from a donor. No repop for those. The wall is PU only.

Look over the suspension and steering. They can suck up money repairing. Look over the wiring too, unless you are expecting to replace it all.

It doesn't say if the trans is a /6 or V8. You can swap the guts to a SB or BB main case if you pay attention to interchange. The As only had 727s, no 904s.

Does it have the frame brackets and are they 6 or 8? Those can be a bit tough to source.

It really depends on what your budget and vision of it finished are. If you are just getting it back on the road with modest small block power, the above mentioned items will guide you. If you are doing something wild (air bag suspension, wheelstander, full-on restoration) it may be better to find one already started and further along or more original.

For the most part, stuff can be found just like any older Mopar. It takes searching and some stuff is rare/pricey.

Honestly, I'm a bit spooked by it myself. My 64 is listed in the B body FS section. I have $6500 in the car and parts I have. He was going to pay boot but it just looks like lots of things hiding on the old A. Besides that, he doesn't know much about it's history. I'm probably going to pass.

In the picture posted here, the step, wheel opening and lower door don't quite look right. This is one of the major rust out areas on these trucks. Since this was the side he chose to show in the pictures, I suspect the other side looks worse. Slant 6s were a tight fit in these trucks and they were a pita to work on.
I would pass. Gene

I'm seeing rust bubbles without even squinting, run away. It's probably painted lemon yellow for good reason.

Well, you guys all seem to be seeing what I'm seeing. I'm not up on these trucks and wasn't sure how big a deal it was though. Where my 64 Polara has some rust, it's all new rust, not re-rust. I think it's a way big project truck. Thanks guys.
