Did the 5.2 magnum come with one as factory? Are they required/needed?

I'm replacing the factory chain with a true double roller. I have only replaced one other small block chain and that was on a 77 with no tensioner.

Is this some new fangled device, what is its purpose? do small block chains fit to loose or

They did not come from the factory with a tensioner. I believe Mopar came out with them mainly for the 3.9 v-6 to quiet the common timing chain rattle issue with them. They can also be used on the v-8s and help stabilize the timing. A good double roller is a better option in my opinion.

A double roller is the best choice OEM gears & chain can be up to 6 degrees either way!
