Hi All: Just scored a nice 50,000 mile 87 Fifth Ave.Needs rear end pinion seal, leaks.Drivers window has an issue, possibly regulator.

My hope was that the exterior opera lights would work, no luck.
I understand the lamps are electrluminesent.
Now what is the most probable cause of failure?

I have not had time to pull them apart, have no shop manual.
Anyone ever fixed one? Hate to spend a load of money on them, but they should be really cool.

Must be some way to rig up some of the led strip lights if repair is impossible.

The car had been pretty well preserved and low mileage, if they failed, they sure do not last long.

I'd scour the boneyards and grab any you can find. Maybe that those cars are now 20 years old or so, the lights fail. I had an 87 fifth in about 1995 and most of the same cars running around equipped with them, worked. They are a cool feature to me.

I have not checked the dealer.
When I have time I will go to the junk yard.

Perhaps mine can be repaired, bad connection or something, both are out.

Hope to hook up with someone that has recently repaired one.

Any pics of your car?

The lights themselves die. They usually dont work so good luck finding good ones in a junk yard.

Double check the ballasts that put juice to the bulb.
Sometimes they burn out and the light stops working.
They are located behind the panel in the door behind the bulb.
