I posted a while back about my low mileage 727 shifting funny on the 2-3 upshift. Engine rpms jump big time when it makes that shift. I have adjusted the trans according to my service manual, yet still have the problem. Once it shifts, I can stick my foot in it and it doesn't slip. Am I missing something? Not sure what to do next. Don't have the funds to have a transmission shop fix it, but I sure would like to drive it to the Mopar meet at my local dragstrip in 2 weeks.

I'm not a trans expert, but if rpm's flash during 2-3 shift you have a problem. Something internal, won't fix itself.Sorry couldn't be more helpful.

RPM flare , the band is releasing faster than the front clutch is applying. you might be able to fix it by dropping out the front servo and removing a spring , assuming it's got multiple springs , to fix it. Or it's got a leak in the circuit that applies the clutch pack that is delaying the application of the front clutch pack. How is reverse , does it go right in or is it delayed ?

What do you know about the trans ? Does it have a shift kit ? Was it rebuilt ? Front clutch pack clearance? Number of springs in the front clutch pack ?

You need to address this , it's not going to get better if you keep driving it .

The trans seemed to work fine for the first week after I bought it. It sat for two weeks and then started having this problem the next time I drove it. Reverse is perfect, no problems otherwise. When I bought the truck, I was told the trans had been rebuilt and had about 20,000 miles on it. However, I was also told the engine had an aftermarket cam with .496 lift, but I discovered that the lumpy cam was a burnt exhaust valve and when I tore the engine down, viola, a stock camshaft! Guess that's what I get for not taking the time to inspect the truck better before buying it.

DROP the pan and report back on the following .... condition of the fluid, any trash in the pan and how far you can pull-down on the lever on the front servo ... that operates the front band.

Will do. Hopefully I can get to that this afternoon, that is if the temp doesn't get too high outdoors! lol

HOPING it is NOT - for your sake - a toasted front band ... but that it what it sounds like to me ....

If it has a shift kit you may have a 1/8" restriction in the front clutch passage that could be removed to help, problem is you must drop the valve body. It could also be your kickdown adjustment or the pressure relief setting is wrong.

Bingo! I had the same issue and my front band was burnt up. My pump gears needed replaced too which I would assume might of caused the front band to go bad over time.

Mine used to flare up about 2-300rpm during the 2-3 shift when I was at WOT. The 1-2 shift was fine and my reverse was also fine.

Crap! Looks like the trans is going to come out before I drive it any further. I just ordered Carl Munroe's ATSG, should be here by the weekend. Guess I'd better put in a call to my brother in Florida. He used to work for a transmission shop and said he could walk me through a 727 rebuild over the phone. Got nothing to lose at this point, the vehicle isn't doing me any good parked in the shop. I'd rather be driving it.
