My son Matt (whiskyrunner) lost in the 8th round today (5 cars) at the No Box Bonanza at Norwalk Ohio. Every run was between 10.84-10.87 in his 360 powered Duster on a very hot day. He kept in touch with me after every round as I sit home on antibiotics recovering. The race pays 2000 Friday, 5000 today, and 5000 tomorrow so he has another big race tomorrow. Hope he seals the deal tomorrow.

John that is a good result. It can only help build his confidence for tomorrow going that many rounds today.

That's exactly what I told him. As his Father and him being 24 now I have to walk a fine line on not only what I say, but also what I check on HIS car. He asks for help at times and I'm there. He totally rebuilt this engine himself as I watched and at times taught. I told him I will not always be here and that he had to learn head porting, using mics, bore gauges, ring grinders, and any other engine building tools. I have them and there all his someday. He fought a convertor issue in his 904 so now my old 727 and convertor is working great for him. He also stopped using the brake and back to a TRUE footbraker which he is a natural at. Proud Father? Yes I am. And now Dad better get better QUICK as we have a fifty dollar bet and a bottle of booze bet on the line and he's ahead.

I think he said 200 dollars but I place a much higher value as a confidence builder. Hope he's on his game today.
The Halloween Classic does not allow buybacks. Way to many cars for that. All day Saturday they run 1st round just to get the field cut in half for Sunday. All racing is stopped from 7pm-8pm for the kids so they can go trick or treating. Imagine having 1300+ racecar trailers for these kids to stop by and get treats. I've attended and raced at about 37 of them and still look forward to it every year.

Not sure on his race packages as we were only texting round to round but he had a .013 light in the round he lost. The other guy had a .001. Matt ended up giving the race back at the strip as the other guy was a 9.20 car and the 140mph bit Matt as Matt ripped the throttle a couple of times and just scrubbed the brakes. He likes to hold a couple and that bites you sometimes against a high mph car. Entry was 99 dollars for all 3 days. Friday paid 2000 dollars, Saturday 5000 dollars, and 5000 dollars today. Can't beat that entry fee. He took his motorhome so he's staying at the track with FREE electric.

Damn ...99 beans for three days and that payout ... some of these other tracks should take note of that. How many cars showed-up for this?

Norwalk shines again ...

BTW is Kevin doing any of the PA work ?

Good job indeed, and by a nice young man, you have every right to be proud!

Thanks Larry. I'm sure you know how it feels having sons that race too. How have you and Kay been doing, hows Brian's car performing, and what the heck is going on with that other son of yours. He's been awful quiet for the last year or so.

First of all you have to know Bill Bader to understand how he does it but it all starts with how you treat the racers. He is also one of the best promoters in the game. He can take a bussiness and sit down with them and show them what HE can do for THEM. Advertizing and I mien lots of advertizing. The payout to the #1 guy in points is 10,000 dollars.
You ask how many cars? well at 8am Thursday morning there were 58 cars in Linders lot lined up for a race you couldn't get into until Friday morning. 100's of cars but remember now for this race there is only one class, one payout.

BTW is Kevin doing any of the PA work ?

Not sure what you are talking about on this one.

Thanks guys. These kids are tough and he is a better racer than I will ever be. I'm not ready to give up the game yet but I have 2 sets of B1 heads and 2 sets of 440-1 heads sitting here for whenever he wants to step her up some. He is really into small tire racing so I see us putting something together one of these days.

Well he just ran his one and only time trial as they go straight into racing now. He ran a 10.82 with a .008 light and says he"s feeling GOOD. I guess I would too.
