Hi, I purchased a mopar green bearing kit for 69 superbee and I'm going to have a non-mopar garage install it. Is it as simple as pulling the axles out, having the old bearings taken off, press on the new kit or does the 3rd member have to come out for any reason? I've never done this, physically can't even get under the car (back injury)and I need to instruct if necessary. Advice will be appreciated....thanks

if you have the removable buttons in the clutch type sg, then you would want to remove them. if it has the floating thrust block it can be left in there. the M-440 green bearing with the snap ring like DrDiff sells are the better ones, the MP ones with the crimped on retainer are not so good. I have run mine with and with out a thrust block. no issues. i also did not run the inner axle seals with the replacement set of greens (9 yrs on first set/HD street duty) 4yrs on rteplacments with no inner seals...no leaks or issues. o-ring on bearing seals up fine. does not hurt to have the extra protection of double seals. yep as simple as they can be, remove old bearings and press bearing all the way on till it seats, then the lock collor geaos on. stick them in and no end adjustment. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beer.gif)

if you have buttons, a magnet on a telescoping wand to reach in and grab them out the tube. I did take a cold chisle and break the sliding thrust block out of a my 742 3.23 open diff. but my 489 3.91 cone SG has them with no issues. i swap gears often and the no-endplay adjustment is a step I dont have to do anymore( not that it takes much to do) if you have the mopar MP ones I would opt to get the M-400 green bearing ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif) no crimp on retainers with thrust block IIRC

Thanks for your comments, I purchased mopar P5249444 and would like to use those, it appears from your comments that the 3rd mrb has to come out to determine if it has buttons?, in which case I'll hold off since I'm not sure about the abilities of the mechanic.

First off return the mopar kit , the bearing retainers being crimped on suck , if you must install an inferior bearing to the factory installed bearing then you want to install the dr. diff bearings.
your car is a 69 , it should have a 489 case which should have a cone type sure grip , confirm that first. if it has a 489 case you will be able to look down the axle tube with the axle removed and see which sure grip it has by what the thrust area tha tthe axle pushes on looks like.
Do you have a problem with your current bearings ?

The green axle ball bearings are not as good as the Timken tapered roller bearing are as far as hard street use , cornering and so on I only use them when I have to such as in a car with a spool As already said the difference between the two types of "Green" bearings is not worth using the cheaper ones, I found that out the hard way Buy the good stuff once, instead of having to later ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/1343795-scratchchin.gif)

if there is nothing wrong with them you are crazy to swap them out for greens.
Clean and inspect them , if they are not trashed then repack with grease and go another 100k miles on them.
