I found out that I have a 741 case in my 8-3/4 and it has 2.76 gears

I am getting a T56 magnum installed with 2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1:1, .80, .62 ratios

Engine is 340 w/ Edlebrock RPM heads, RPM intake, RPM cam etc. 300 hp/tq
26" tire 275/50-15's
Plan on road racing the car stripped and gutted E body

Cheapest option is just get 3.73 gears

is it worth it to get 3.91 gears?
I would have to get a 489 case

thanks for any advice

You'll want the 3.91 (or even 4.10 if your engine likes to RPM) with those kind of overdrive ratios.

I'm driving my '73 Dart daily with a 3.91 and 0.69 OD A518.

I agree the lower the better with what you have. A 340 doesn't make alot of torque, but has good power up higher in the rpm. They respond very well to lower gears. With those overdrive ratio's, I would go even a 4.30.
Your engine is going to like to shift at about 6800 rpm.

My problem is I can't find 3.91s for the 741 brand new, only 3.55 or 3.73s.
Would love to get some 3.91s for a 741 but I also want new unused parts

Cass shows 3.91's starting at $185 for a 741 case.

I just called Cass and he says you can't get brand new 3.91s for a 741

He's gonna set me up with a new 489 with 3.91s, TrueTrac and 1350 yoke though...

Problem solved
