"I was not comparing, only pointing out that .060" plug gap was probably correct for his 93 chevy. And the "perfectly round" electrode was platinum. Hope he didn't put regular plugs in it?"

Challenger1, you are shooting from the hip and you are wrong.
Spark plug gap for the 1993 5.7 is 0.035".
The plugs were NOT platinum, I took them out myself. They were a standard AC conventional plug. NOT fine wire. The center electrode, which any fool will tell you is supposed to be sharp, was so worn it was hemispherical. The largest gap I measured was 0.072".

Put your hat back on your head and stop talking through it.

My point was even with worn-out plugs with a way-larger-than-recommended gap, there was no deterioration in performance (which wasn't that great to begin with, but that's another story).

Back in the first days (1975) of GM's HEI systems, factory stock gaps ran as high as 0.055". It wasn't too many years before they started bringing the plug gaps back to smaller numbers.

Yes I was wrong on your 93 model from my goggle search and I was "shooting from the hip". The 98-99 5.7 do use a platinum plug and they are gaped at.060".

And I don't wear hats, never have.

I went from running a parts house chrysler ignition box and ballast resistor and coil and .035 plug gap to a crane cams hi-6 cd ignition with a crane cams lx91 coil and i opened my plug gaps up to .045 and fired it up and right away i noticed a way smoother idle. And while driving i noticed it was more responsive.
NOw i dont know if that is due to running a .045 plug gap or because it's a hotter cd ignition, or both? but i always ran .035 gap with the stock mopar ignition. I wont run anything over .045 regardless of what ignition it is because i have been told the flame will blow out at .050 and above at higher rpms. Dont know if that is true or not, just been told that.

I have been told the moon is made of green cheese. But I don't believe it.
The larger a spark you can make the faster the fire will burn and spread and that's a good thing. So try a larger gap and see what happens. At some point the voltage to fire will be so high that it finds another path to ground, or will be more than the coil can put out. Blowing out the spark is a myth.
