Hello Everyone,
I have a 1967 Satellite with a 318, auto, etc. Anyway I have a 440 that I plan to swap in. What problems will I encounter IF I decide not to go with larger torsion bars?
Also, for the rear springs, what is the difference betweeb the HD springs and the SS springs? I would like to raise the rear slighty for that raked look.

Mike

the 318 bars will be a softer suspension, more compliant. Front end will have more vertical movement than a stiffer set up. You run a slightly higher risk of bar failure (basically crack in half, total loss of suspension on one side--very rare, very slight risk, but it does happen, and these bars ain't gettin any younger)
You'll have slightly more room for exhaust!!!

The SS springs are stiffer than the HD, and will raise the car more, and will most likely result in an uneven rear end height--a lot of people hate them for that. There are springs available that will raise the rear more than stock yet are not as 'beefy' as SS.

Mike,

I here's what I know, and other on here will know
a lot more.

Adding a big block will add more weight to the front of the car, and the smaller bars will make
handling poorer than it is. You also might have
trouble getting the ride height dialed in and the
bars won't last as long.

The springs have a different load rating I believe. Laura at ESPO is quite good at getting
the right springs and ride height you are looking
for. Will cost about 50 bucks more than Mancini
or summit, but if you don't like where it rides, they will rearch for free. You won't get that from the others.

For what it's worth.

Doug

I thought the SS leaf springs have a shorter and stiffer front section that require the use of a longer front spring hanger, and that they are designed for drag racing. The HD springs are designed more for handling, are slightly stiffer than stock, but should not really change the height of the car much unless the stock springs are drooping. The front torsen bars could be used if you want the weight transfer whilr drag racing, but on the street you want stiffer torsen bars for better handling as so the car dosent bottom out everytime you go over a dip.

The stock 318 torsion bars with a 440 will make a already soft suspension way too soft for street use imo. You could always change them after trying out the car with the 440 installed however.

There's really not that much weight difference, you won't notice much difference.

If you are relocating your battery and getting an aluminum intake, headers, there really will be no difference.
