I am thinking about buying a used 6.1 hemi with about 25K on the motor it is out of a 2007 Charger. The car was totaled from a side impact. The motor seemed to run good. I have posted the compression numbers, do they seem ok.

rear
120 110

120 120

100 120

120 120
front

Seems like they should be higher!

You are correct. With the throttle body @ wot and a warm engine it should be no less than 200-215.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to update the info on my post. I was told the motor ran well. They may have done a compression test not at WOT. Could they do one just by cranking the motor after it was removed. If they did would the 100-120 numbers be more in line with correct.

Seems a bit low either way and yes they could have done it after it was removed and cold. You should do a leak down on the cyls to really nail down the condition.2-4% leakage would be inline with my numbers.

BY doing it without the throttle body open can cause low, and inaccurate numbers. Just by those numbers, there is at least a 20% variance. That's way to much. I would also recommend a leak down test and see what it tells you. If they are not willing to let you, then I would pass.

i have never evere ever seen one at 200 psi....

stock that is.

stock 6.1? i have seen 135 as the norm. some a touch higher but not that much.

i have degreed a stock srt8 cam in in the past. ended up 4 degrees advanced and the cranking comp. was raised to 185.

that is the most i have ever seen a 6.1 get to using a stock cam.

with some of my stuff i have done now, i have been able top pull 200-225 and every where in between out of them.

I have been trading emails with the owner of the engine (a salvage yard). They state the numbers they gave me where from a STATIC COMPRESSION TEST. I'm not sure what a static compression test is and if that kind of test would give accurate numbers. Would this test be in line with the 100-120 compression numbers they gave me.
