I've fixed 5 other spots, now I noticed some dampness around this bolt. What's the fix for this?

With the lock-nut loosened .... is the bolt itself loose/sloppy in the case ?

That's your band adjustment. You can take off the nut and back out the screw a couple turns, then put some sealer on the threads. Put the adjustment screw back where it was or adjust to spec. No, it never ends.

I had constant leaks with my 727 and then it died on me after about 18 months of weekend cruising

I finally went to extreme measures... garage floor looks better, my face looks like and my car goes like

The band adjuster isn't a very common leak point. The adjuster is the same size as a 1/2" drain plug washer so you could install one under the nut.

Ya, Mine is a leaker too!
Looks like a pain to get to. Torsion bar and headers are in the way from below.
Do you guys get to it from the top?
Is there a way to adjust without a pressure gauge?

Any adjustment needed, or just remove the nut and add the washer? My tranny has a reverse manual valve body if that makes any difference?

You could just hold the adjuster and remove the nut to install a washer but why not adjust it while you're at it?

Well, that's the problem. I have no idea how to adjust it. Any simple instructions or tips?

Thx

Don't know yet, haven't loosened anything up yet. Doesn't move to the touch, when I wipped it down to make sure the fluid was coming from the area.

What I would do is this..... MARK the position of the bolt and loosen up the nut and check to see if the bolt is loose in the case. The threads could be bad OR the case could be cracked.

A leak in that area is very unusual.

Adjusting bands:

Loosen locknut (Or remove if you want to install a sealing washer)
Turn in the adjuster-bolt till it's just 'snug', then back it off 2 full turns. Hold it there while you tighten the locknut again.

Some manual valve bodies have specific instructions but the general adjustment procedure is to back the nut off and tighten the adjuster snug with a short (4") wrench. Then back the adjuster off two full turns and tighten the nut while holding the adjuster.

Isn't this the band adjustment? The specs should be in any Motor's, Chilton's or Haynes manual. It does take an inch pound torque wrench or the conversion to foot pounds. Sorry, I have neither.

Thx all for the info, I probably dab some sealer on the threads and add the washer, before adjusting it.

Wonder which spot will leak next. I've already fixed the following:

Pan gasket
Neutral safety switch gasket
Pivot pin
Selector shaft seal
Driveshaft seal

I'd be leary of a rubber or plastic washer. Your lock nut may not torque dowm properly.

The torque value is just to make sure it's snugged up...A small wrench will do the job...Just snug it down then make your adjustment..

I would take the linkage off the trans and check to see that when the valvebody was put back in after the linkage seal was replaced, that someone (you??) didn't fold the lip of the seal over. Easy to do, been there, but I always check. I couldn't really see that much oil comming from the band adjuster. usually it will just have a damp look all around it.

Don.

clean it with brake clean

throw some baby powder up on it

look to see where its seeping from

did you change both shaft/selector seals?

does not look like you gots much adjustment left, not many threds showing above the lock nut,may be your last adjustment and hope you can get the lock nut back on

may be you should mark it,hold it there and back the lock nut off,use some brake clean to remove the oil, then just put a little rtv (mopar black rtv for trannys)around the case and adjuster and tightend the lock nut back down with the adjuster in the same spot you have it in now

thats if its shifting and working good...dont fix what anit broke

and like said, the valve body may have its own specs for the band adjustment
