On the floats that come in a Edelbrock 1405 and 1406 carburetor how bad are they prone to issues? I seen one video of a out of the box that had a leaking float. Anyways, I am asking because I had my carburetor apart today because it smells of strong fuel so I was checking the float level and while I was I doing that I decided to remove the floats to see if they were leaking. Well, I didn't see anything abnormal. However, my one float if you shake it sounds like it has a piece of metal inside but, the other float is fine. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this issue.

Not at all. Sounds like when a hole was soldered that a piece of the solder dropped inside. I would not think that that would be enough to skew the weight of the float to cause an adversely rich mixture expecially to the point of smelling gassy as in your descrip. With it being gassy I'd check fuel psi at idle with a known accurate gauge (not over 5.5), needle & seat condition, throttle blades opening amount & that's related to initial timing. Set floats to 7/16" with gasket in place.
