I HAVE 440 PUT TOGETHER BACK IN 1996 IN SHOW CAR ABOUT 5000 MILES ON ENGINE. OIL PRES. HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD AND STEADY, LATELY NOTICED PRES. DROP OF 20 LBS. DURING HARD TAKE OFFS AND HARD BRAKING AND HARD CORNERING.
THE PRES. COMES RIGHT BACK UP IN A FEW SECONDS. ENG. HAS MOPAR WINDAGE TRAY STOCK TYPE PAN AND SAME OIL LEVEL AS ALWAYS. I AM THINKING A CRACKED PICK UP TUBE. ?? HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM ??????? PLEASE LET ME KNOW edmopar440@embarqmail.com

Do you know if the oil pan is baffled? Sounds like it's not. The windage tray won't keep the oil in the sump.

Add an extra quart of oil and test drive to see if it still does it. Sounds like the pick-up tube is getting uncovered. Have you recently gone to a lighter or synthetic oil?

I don't think that a cracked pick-up tube would care if you accel, decel or cornering. It would be low all of the time, I would think.

I'd guess partly plugged filter or screen or speculating: a slight barely noticeable broad dent in the pan that has reduced clearance & the clearance might have been right on the edge of being minimal when built & the slight decrease made it now noticeable on the gauge. Definitely related to the pickup/sloshing taking place if the filter ain't partly plugged. I'd pull the pan & check er out
