Hello, I think I just blew my 7 1/4 rear end after one hard day of driving in my a-body with a new 340. As far as 8 3/4 rears go, is the 741 case rear end open with 3.55 gears going to be strong enough. I read that the 741 rears are the weakest of the 3, 8 3/4. Would'nt they be strong enough for a mild 340? Thanks!

The 741 case has the smallest pinion diameter out of the 3 case but it still pretty danm stroug you will have no problems with it behind a mild 340 as long as the parts are set up right and in good shape.

It will be plenty strong. Many were used behind a lot more power than you will ever make with a 340. The biggest draw back for the 741 case is the lack of after market gears for them. The pinion may have the smallest bearing sizes but remember that all of the 8 3/4 neck down and take the same yoke. (other than some take the coarse splined yoke) Teeth will be lost first and that will happen at times with any of them.
