the wiper arms quit working on my 78 new yorker. it seems the plastic bushing where it attaches to the wiper motor has broken. Does anybody know where I can find one? The car has unfortunately been brought back out for daily driving due to other vehicular issues, but now with no wipers it makes life very difficult! The part has 2 numbers I can see on it, but I did not find anything from them. they are 58622 on top, and 3799183 below it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

here is a couple pics of it.

Is this an intermittent wiper car? If so, good luck as this is a one year only part.
Check out the C Body Drydock on this subject, lots of posts there.

I wish there was a low cost (good business case for low volume at low retail price) way to reproduce these. Late B-body owners face the same issue with a similar plastic bushing that is no longer available.

if you have a good part, then you could buy a home urethane casting kit

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008B83VFO/ref=...ASIN=B008B83VFO

use the good part to make a rubber mold, then cast urethane copies. if you don't want to do it yourself, there's a number of prototype shops out there in the world that would do it for a price....

another option would be again to go to a prototype shop with a 3D printer (SLS, SLA, or FDM) and they should be able to do a 3D scan of your part to digitize it and then "print" out copies....

durability might not be as good as the original, but it's better than nothing.

Uh, there's more to it than just a plastic piece.

Now, I've not had the time to pursue it now, but I have been in touch w/a vendor who might, just might make them, $75-$100 per.

He would rather have some pre-orders before producing some. It's odd, all the folks who need this piece, when you offer it up, find all kinds of reasons to not pay the $100 for it, but will pay way over that for a 30+ year old NOS piece that will come to the same fate, much sooner it seems too.

OP, PM me and I'll keep you're name on hand.

The only solution at this time (and for the the near furture, in my opinion) is to modify your '78 only linkage with one from a 74-77 C-body.
Details of this mod were discussed in full over in FCBO.

We've had some experience with this kind of deal before, and they don't have a great track record for working out, I'm sorry to say.

I think a lot of folks are understandably hesitant to send money for a part that may never be produced.

The other problem is the apparent variety of these things. Which one(s) to reproduce?
