Looking at new wheels and tires for my truck.
Does`nt get driven much,and even more rarely in the winter.
So the question is: how well do chromed aluminum wheels hold up?
Once the chrome starts to peel theres no fixing that
Too lazy to constantly polish a polished aluminum wheel.

Also will OEM 2500/3500 '10 wheels fit an `01 2500. Thought I read the center register is different?

That peeling chrome is wicked sharp.

I think there is an offset problem, center is too far out in the rim.

In my experience, the chrome must be 100% removed from the inner bead area. Galvanic corrosion starts and air leaks from the rim. Takes about 15 years, but it happened to me. Had to scrap the wheels.

OKAY, to really answer your question I think with your projected usage, the wheels would last at least 10 years before problems started, probably a lot longer if you keep them away from curbs and the like.

So go out and buy buy buy those shiny new hoops! Do pick a good quality brand.

Would clear powder coating a polished wheel hold up better? I have had some chrome aluminum wheels begin to bubble within 18 months and they had less than 10k miles.

The reason why some aftermarket chromed aluminum wheels fail the plating is that the base wheel is too porous. The pores trap casting dirt and machining residue and this is the space where the chrome plating fails first, and allows moisture in to finish off the failure. It is like painting over dirt.
Best bet is chrome plating over forged wheels (almost no porosity) or a very high quality casting. That is what the OEM suppliers had to do to get life out of these wheels. Some of the aftermarket gets it, most don't.
Chroming a cast aluminum wheel not engineered originally for chrome plating is a recipe for early failure.
