Guys,

I have OEM-style chrome valve covers on my 426 Hemi. The valve covers each have a filler tube with a push-on OEM-style breather. Obviously, they are not allowing the system to break enough because they constantly leak. After a hard acceleration, the caps almost push completely off!

What's the best fix? I considered leaving the one on the front driver's side and replacing the one at the rear passenger side with a PVC push-on cap like this: http://www.chicagoconnection.us/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=680

Help.

These are what I am going to use. They have an internal shelf... a z shape internally.I got them straight from kb. They bolt on and have no wire mesh inside to collect oil. Plus they have a nostalgia look.

Nice ride!! Are you still on the westside??

Gonna stop by Willies on Weds nights this summer on Glenway ave where the old Texas roadhouse used to be?

Sounds like fun! Is that every Weds? What time?

My 472 drolled on itself. Installed a pcv valve on passenger side and vented to manifold and cured it

That sounds promising! Wasn't sure if this might lean out the back cylinders though (intake has an inlet at the back).

Cincylance...do you know if this motor has standard or low tension oil rings in it?

Yes, it has low-tension rings.

I started out with 1 push on breather and a PCV valve, went out and thrashed the car and popped off the breather and lost it. I then went to a K&N style breather and a PCV valve and the breather would stay on but I had a small rear main leak, only when I thrashed it and the breather would be oil soaked. I then added baffle plates inside the valve covers, got rid of the PCV valve and added another K&N breather and no more rear main leak and no more oil soaked breathers.

Since you have low tension rings, the breather setup like Hemi-itis showed you is what you ought to do. A vacuum pump is what it really needs though. I have low tension rings in my hemi and tried to use just breathers on the valve covers for a while...it slobbered oil everywhere when you romped on it. I ended up putting a vacuum pump on it.

My 512 / 518 C.i. street motor had low tension oil rings when I first put it together, it was a bear on crankcase pressure, epscially above 6000 RPM I ended up replacing those rings with the a set of file to fit moly rings with standard tension oil rings and it got a lot better Adding the second breather cap and the other PCV valve helped also BYW, going to the standard tension oil rings did NOT hurt the power, ET or MPH, if anything it helped all three by having less oil in the combustion chambers when revved up above 5000 RPM
