Is 0-60 in 4 seconds or low 4 seconds possible with a warmed up 73 charger 400 engine?
1973 Dodge Charger SE 400 automatic transmission. Curb weight: 3800 lbs. All stock so far.
Goal: Reliable everday driveable warmed up 400 as close to 400hp as possible, then a 470 stroker if need be.
Don't protect a feminist when the collapse comes!

Highly unlikely. It would take traction, gears, and power, more power than a "warmed up" 73 400

What do you think could be a realistic 0-60 time for a car like that?
Right around 6 seconds would be doing pretty good for what it is. Some combos of that description would have trouble breaking 7 seconds. Low 4s is unbelievably quick!!! Others would know better than I but I bet low 4 would equate to about 1.7 60-foot

I knew the 4s were pushing it. I would have thought the 5s was possible. Anything that could be done about traction like suspension, transmission?

I just noticed the additional info on your car I agree, the 2.76 gears are a MAJOR handicap to any quick acceleration. I seriously doubt you would break the 7 second mark......sorry.
3.91 would make a HUGE difference, but gear swaps are always a trade off/compromise

I'm not %100 sure, but with a stock 400 in a heavy 73 Charger with 3.91's, maybe 5.5 or 6 seconds? You'd need decent traction, and probably a higher stall torque converter to get there. Your goal is doable though I think. Especially if you go the 470 or even a 505 route since it really doesn't cost much more. Speed cost money, how fast you wanna go?

But it wasn't my momma's car I was driving either.
I'm not saying you can't, and I guess it doesn't bother some people. I have a '80 Mirada with 3.91's and long trips at 3500+ rpm and the loud exhaust get on my nerves after a while. I never had a problem but I guess I worry too much with the engine buzzing for hours like that.

I eventually want to get to the 470 stroker but its too much money for now. So I'm getting there in stages by first warming it up with some heads, cam, intake exhaust etc.
