I am using a set of iron rockers on a street and strip motor...they all have the oil hole to lube the tip/guide under the arm itself (Right in the photo). I know that this works best for High rpm use as oil gets directed toward the valve. But I would imagine a 273 style hole on top of the rocker arm(left in the pic) would work better at low rpm. Question is, would using rockers with the oil hole like the one on the right be satisfactory for street duty? Or should I also drill them at the top to oil at low rpms? Ive never seen a rocker with both holes utilized..Thanks in advance.

i would think the rocker on the right would better for the street cos oil is sprayed on the spring & tip for better cooling.

My .01...I wouldnt worry at all about the tip of the rocker getting oil. Id be concerned about the cup getting oil.

YEARS AGO the mopar gurus plugged that top hole. They determined it to be useless.

When I had my iron rockers done at RAS they drilled them for push rod oiling and spring oil as well with NO hole on the top

The top hole might only work when using stock valve covers. That designed could have been based on a splash system where the oil bounced off of the cover. Hard to say without knowing how the design was done. This is a good example of changing one part without understanding why the part was designed the way it was. Engineers rarely make random decisions. The guy who put that hole at that location and angle had an idea in mind and probably had some test data telling him that it worked the best in that particular location.

Ive seen 273's rockers oil as they run and the top oil hole would let oil run down the "arm" of the rocker and oil the contact point where it meets the valve... its hard to imagine the rocker on the right getting oil to the tip or spring without using rpm to "flick" it over there. Just wondered if my reasoning was off.
