So my heater core decided to take a leak all over my passenger floorboard today. Anyone here ever replaced one of these on a '66 Chrysler 300 before? Any tips/tricks I should know about? As a temporary measure, would it hurt anything if I just disconnected the hoses @ the firewall and bypass the heater core alltogether?

Can't speak to the ease/difficulty of the R&R on a '66 C body heater box. If there's A/C involved, it's harder than without (duh).

I can speak to the bypassed heater core question:

You not be alone by any stretch of the imagination of you looped a length of heater hose from one outlet nipple back into the other at the engine. No harm whatsoever to buy you some time.

Down to just a blue car now.

Have to agree with you on that one. I think I've had mine looped like that for 5 years now. I've even had a replacement core sitting around for a good 8 months now and still never touched it.

After 10 years of sitting, I finally got my Challenger back to life only to find it bleeding the great green stuff on my passenger side floor mat. The heater core is now bypassed and since the car won't get driven much in the winter, its last on the list of stuff I need to fix.
