I am going a 440 in my 71 duster and want to run headers in my car. I will be running power steering and a mini starter. What do you guys recommend for exhaust headers? I love the look of the TTI headers but cannot spend that much on headers as I am building the car on a budget. I was thinking of headman headers as I have used them before..

I have CPPA's on mine but no p/s. That design was bought by TTI,or so I am told. Schumacher makes a shorty header that looks good but you'll leave some HP on the table...if that's a concern of yours. I don't believe Hedman makes a specific A-body BB header but I know a B-body header can be made to fit Check the tech articles at:

www.bigblockdart.com some good info there.

Guess it all depends on what you want and what you want to spend. Good luck! a lot of fun to be had with a BB A-body

Im planning on using TTI on my 440 dart.
I have them on my wife's Hemi in her 65 Coronet.
They went in great and clear everything, and that's with PS.
No offense to anyone But Its hard to believe anyone bought the CPPA design, It heard they are a Nightmare. Poor plug and wire clearances etc...

I am building the car on a budget.

If you're OK with fenderwells there's always the Hooker super comps & there was a set of used ones for sale here recently for very reasonable money (dont remember if they were 5205 "1&7/8" or 5215 "2"). Equal length & make good power & their flanges are thin & I'd cut them to help with that & cant run too big a dia of tire with them & as said go to www.bigblockdart.com for addit'l (excellent) info. They are unsightly & if there's anyway you could afford the TTI's that'd be the best way to go

My 71 Demon was a race only car, butI'm going to have it also do street duty.I had 2" Pro Parts headers on it,but went with Scumacher Tri-Y headers.Plenty of header to run 11's.

I am thinking 550 hp tops. It has cast iron cylinder heads and I would like to swap them to aluminum one day

i used a set of b-body headers they were 1 7/8 with a 3 inch collector and i modified em,they ended up fitting good after several installs and uninstalls and cutting and welding, but i got it done for under a 100 bucks and the used headers were 75,so i guess thats a pretty cheap set of headers, they were hooker i think and it didn't take much for the passenger side, but the driver side sucked,it had a manual steering box and it was a 68 dart

No offense taken. I put this car together(the 1st time)back in the mid-nineties...there were not a lot of choices then. I had to clearance them in a few spots and finesse some tubes for ground clearance but all in all they work. The only problem I didn't have was plug wire fit. I've had them on iron heads as well as the Eddy heads I'm running now...same wires. They are, however, a custom made set I put together myself using Taylor wire

Id still can only recommend the TTI units.
Taking a lot of time laying on your back to change plugs is not my idea of a good time.
Taking headers in and out of a BB A Body car several times to tinker is way more than I personally would care to deal with. Im getting to old for that.
The TTI units are pricey but they are worth all the stress and hassle they will save you in the long run. Just My
My 440 Dart had a set of "persuaded" headers on it when I bought it. If you want a Budget set that is a PITA to work with.

Proparts...They are by far the easiest to install. The only drawback is that they are partial fenderwell, One tube on the passenger side and two on the drivers side.

For the most power go with Hooker fenderwells.

No offense here either. We have 2" CPPA on my boys Dart I bought in 1996 because not many made chassis headers for bigblock A-bodies back then. But they fit fine and work good for us. Now we installed them when the eng went in from underneath so it was easy for us. I had the car on my lift at work and had the eng and trans on the K-frame with the headers on and just lowered the car down over it. It was a piece of cake like that. But they fit fine and the Taylor plug wires fit good and has never burnt a plug wire. I only had to ding one tube that touched the pitman arm nut and one other tube that was close to the starter. But they do like like the TTI headers on my 63 to me or very close. These CPPA's have been on his Dart since 1997 and are still holding up good. Ron

I already have a 440 built for the car! The motor was a gift to me but I would like to eventually replace the heads with aluminum units. I will be making my own chassis stiffening components and have bought and sold mopar parts at enough of a profit that my 8 3/4 489 case rear end will be free. The car will have some money spent on it as time allows but I am trying to keep costs down as much as possible. I will be doing alot of my own work so that will save money as well. I want the car to be as streetable as possible as it is going to get driven alot. I also want it to handle and also want it as fast as possible too. I know there are compromises in each of those areas so I have to figure out how much my budget can handle and then plan from there. The 550hp number was a tops and probably will never be reached in all honesty. I just wanted to know what kind of headers so that I would buy just one set of headers and proceed from there so that I don't have to buy 2 sets of headers. I just like to buy parts once and be done

Sounds like a plan, Buy a used set of BB Header out of the forum here.
I think there is a set or two in the race parts section.

I know of a used set that a buddy has! I also have a friend who is a great fabricator and has a tig welder so most likely I will go the used route and cut and trim to make them fit. One of the burdens to shoe horn a big block into your duster
