i have been fighting an oil pan leak for 3 weeks. got another oil pan coming. but what do u do with the ears sticking out at the main seal?? they stick out where the rail gaskets want to be and the rubber lip seal wants to be they can't all be there. last time i tightend up the pan the ears pushed out. so i cut them off even with the main cap. then put a dab of rtv there and left it loose till next day then tightened it a little more. ran the motor on jackstands no leaks. took it out and tested it. throws oil all over the place. slings over to the headers and looks like i blew the motor. i have had the pan off about 6 times now getting real good at it.

what kind of pan was this? I had the same problem with the milodon low profile 7 qt pan.

I think it was made wrong. the rubber end seal by the rear main cap stuck up too high so it would split when the pan was bolted down.

I used a razor blade to trim the tips of it even with the top of the pan and it seemed to work

you are right. it's a milodon 7 qt. it either splits the seal or pushs it in on the mail cap. i called Mancini and they told me to call Tom at Milodon. he said send it back and he will send me another one. i have just about wore out the bolts taking it off and on. do u leave or cut off the ears of the main seal that sticks out of the main cap. you know 3 pieces of gasket want to meet there.

holy crud. people thought I was smoking dope when I told them that. Im glad (and sorry) that someone else had the some issue. IM VALIDATED!!!

what I did was put the rubber seal on and pulled the little tips thru (I had to drill out the holes a bit to make them fit without ripping off). Then i took a razor blade and cut the rubber ends as flat as I could to be at the same height as the pan edge. I used the whole side gasket without cutting it but I used a lot of RTV on it where it meets the rubber. it seems to have worked.

If I ever do it again, I would used something like The Right Stuff to glue those side pieces on but use the RTV right in the crease where the side gasket meets the rubber gaskets. The Right Stuff will hold the side pieces from squishing out (glue them in first and let it dry).

If you use RTV on the sides (like I did), I found the sides like to squish out when you tighten the pan.

sounds like you already called Milodon. let me know what they said. I might call them myself.... I was kinda peeved when I had to rip my pan off thinking I had a rear main seal leak

yes i did call Milodon and talked to Tom. i guess he is the oil pan guy. told him what was happening. two times the rubber seal pushed in the pan so i glued it with yellow 3m set over night and put it in still leaked. i tightened it a little more test again still leaked. tightened again and it split and left a smoke clould for a 1/4 mile. my duster is just a good fog mach. track closes next week guess i won't make it this year. i was so close.

is that with the original pan from mancini or a replacement pan from milodon?

Did they admit anything may be wrong with them?

it is the Milodon pan that is leaking. i bought it from Mancini. they refered me to Milodon for the warrenty. which was good so i talked directly to them. they said they never heard of that before and told me to send it back and they would send me another. how old is yours?

(805-577-5950)you can call Tom at Milodon and see what the deal is. i hope the one they send me is better than the one i sent back. he seemed surprized i had a problem. i have been screwing with this for three weeks. i figured i was doing something wrong. but after 4 sets of gaskets. i gave and called.

I don't use the rear end seal on the pan at all. a single bead of silicone seals everything just fine.
