I need some help in understanding the Cam Sensor and Trigger Wheel. This is from my Gen 3 Hemi. Based on the design of the trigger wheel, the Cam Sensor must actuate when it hits an opening. The ring has 8 equally spaced openings, which makes sense. But, what I don't understand is, some of the openings have two additional openings or one additional opening. What are the purpose of the additional holes, and why are they not the same for every cylinder?

First Pic shows 3, then one, then one.

Next is 2, then 3, then 2

Lastly 2, then one

My understanding is that the odd spacing and number of holes is so the sensor/ computer actually recognizes the true position of the camshaft. If all it had was a bunch of evenly spaced holes the computer wouldn't be able to differentiate on position from the next.

That's my understanding of it as well.
