I have a trans leak in an early 70's A727 that looks like it's comming from the lever pin on the back of the case. The pin apparently has o-rings to seal? How hard to remove the pin? I can see the tailshaft has to come off. What needs to happen after that? I have the FSM and HP Transmission book, but could not find the info I need. I'm no trans guy obviously. Thanks guys...

Yes there is an o-ring that seals that linkage shaft.
Besides the tail housing, you will need to remove the pan and valve body so you can push the pin out the back. The linkage can fall apart, so be careful. I never did this without disassembling the trans, so I am not sure how hard it will be to get it all back together.

The linkage "anchor" presses againts one of the rear band tabs and the small strut presses againts the other band tab. Maybe this pic shows it well enough for you.

This pic shows what you see before you remove the valve body. As you can see, it is in the way to work on the linkage.

in the early years of the alunimun torqueflite that pin and o ring was problem, they later on used a pin with 2 o rings. If you feel lucky clean pin and surounding area and push adhesive-silicone in there?

Jim - many thanks. I ordered four "A-727 Reverse Band Shaft "O" Ring" from TSR Racing. Now we'll see if these old fat fingers can do the job under the car without everything coming apart and falling in my face.

I can be done in the car first take out the 5 bolts in the tailshaft extension housing to rotate it so the pin can be removed. It is best to remove the valvebody to give you better room to work. The hardest part is always putting the flat bar back in the band working upside down.Always put a little silicone on the shaft ahead of the new o-ring for positive seal when you push it in.
