I was told that the frames tend to crack over time. I was looking to buy a used Featherlite. How common is the problem?
Any one have an aluminum trailer for a long time?

Gold rush uses steel tongues on their aluminum trailers. I have heard of the ATC, Featherlites cracking.

I just got a 40' T&E that is 15 years old and looks and pulls like a new one.

One day I will have something cool here.

I've seen some of the early aluminum trailers crack the inner supports in the side pouches( I can't think of the brand name, (it was the trailer company Raymond Beadle owned in Texas) I've never heard of any of them, regardless of brand, cracking the frames

Goldrush trailers don't have frames, they are all extruded aluminum. Very, very strong. I had one that I bought used 1997 model and pulled it 125+K miles with absolutely no trouble, not even blown tires. And it is still on the road today.

All you have to do with trailers is look at the cost, that will dictate the quality, even with aluminum trailers. You definitely get what you pay for with trailers, there are "no free rides".

Yes, you get what you pay for but Gold Rush and T&E are in a different league. $32K plus for a 24ft tag is above my pay grade. I would think Featherlite is decent quality.

I have a 40" 2004 Exiss gooseneck trailer. I still pulls like a dream and I would figure it has around 30,000 miles on it. The doors don't sag, the back door still closes well, so I guess other than a few rivets being replaced, it's a good trailer. I don't think they make them any more but I paid $20,000 with cabinets new.

Never owned or knew anyone with a Featherlight, but I always thought they were on the same level as T&E and Goldrush?

imho goldrush, T&E and the like are top of the line, featherlite, ATC are down a grade from them. when i was researching aluminum trailers iirc i saw some bad feedback on the optima and exiss. i ended up with a 40' ATC goose it's a nice trailer but there are still some things that to me weren't acceptable.

personally if you can swing the cash i recommended an aluminum trailer over steel ALL day long...and you can keep the wooden floors they're OK for a tree fort but i hate them in a car trailer. also if you've never pulled a goose or 5th you should try it compared to a tag...i think you'll like it

Worked at Wabash National Trailer Centers for the last 8 years, we repair and rebuild every type of trailer towed in this country. They can all be fixed, plated, repaired, and sent on thier way! Many featherlites don't get the love and upkeep the top of the line trailers see, they get abused, used hard, and put away wet. I've seen them stripped down and feel they are an excellent value for the money.

Personally, I've never seen a trailer win a drag race...

Sounds like you have seen more than the average guy on trailers. Could you give us your opinion on the major brands and things to look for across the board and Mfgr. specific?

Buy a goldrush and the only reason you will have to get rid of it is because you want a bigger one. I bought my 33' in 88 and my 43' in 96. Still perfect and looks new.

You get what you pay for in trailers.

I would buy another Exxis in a heartbeat if I needed a new trailer.

I had a small issue with an inner fender. They paid me to fix it and gave me four new tires and wheels sense they could not match brands for just one tire. The new tires were junk. I called back and was willing to do what ever on my end. Didn't have to. They sent me four brand new Goodyears already mounted and would not let me send the old wheels back. I have never dealt with a company so customer focused in my life. I just can't say enough good things about them.

Totally agree on the floors, I pressure washed my floors almost every week, hundreds of times.

My floor was sealed to the walls on my 49' goldrush and I would start at the front and everything ran out the back. We changed bearings in my dragster all the time inside, it got oily and was easy to clean.
Mine.
