Front and rear Torque boxes were standard issue on all 67 and later A-body convertibles, all A-Body big block cars, and all A-body 340 manual trans cars. That said, there were a lot of mistakes made during production, some cars got them that should not have, some cars that should have them didnt get them, or only got just fronts or just rears.

Pretty much the same way for everything. If you haven't worked in an auto assembly plant you probably have no clue on how many cars get built with missing, incorrect, or substituted parts. As an example I know A LOT of trucks would get hi-stall converters because the guy sequencing them would get behind and not get the bins with the standard ones changed in time. Bolts? Whatever fits in the holes when the bins run low. Have a big parts supply issue - they WILL make substitutes to keep the lines moving, even to the point of having competitors make them, such as the GM 360 cranks. Yes, with Ma Mopar there is no always gets or had - it's should or most had.

Good for race car but don't look at all original.

Thanks ScottSmith Harms and pacifica for posting those excellent pics.
I thought my 70 Swinger 340 4spd had the front and rear boxes, but now I know for sure it does.

Same as i posted over on Abodies for you,
It's all sometimes hit and miss, but generally speaking for '67-'69 this is it:
1) All converts front and rear no matter motor size.
2) No boxes on /6 or 318 hardtops/fastbacks, ect
3) 340 autos no boxes
4) 340 4speeds have front and rear
5) 383 auto always rear, occasionally fronts from what I hear?
6) 383 4speeds always rear, occasionally fronts from what I hear?
7) 440 only built with automatics, always rear, never heard of any with fronts.

I'm not sure why but I've seen more 340 4speeds with both and 383 cars with just rears? Why I don't know, you would think the 383's would have both?
I have 2 340 4spds with both, a 340 auto with none, 3 383 4spds with rear only, 2 440 autos with rear only. Some guys will say BB cars have both but you can't prove that by me or any cars I've seen!

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave
