Hi all,

I'm sure I've seen this topic discussed here before, but the SEARCH feature isn't cooperating with me. I seem to recall the general consensus was that Mopar's engine paint isn't all that great. Regardless, I went ahead and bought a few cans yesterday, because I haven't been able to find the shade of blue I'm looking for. Just wondering what other people's experience with it has been. Thanks.

Roger

I haven't tried the blue (I used Dupli Color) but I did my air cleaner in Street Hemi Orange, and so far so good. I have only run it about an hour so far, but the heat hasn't affected it yet.

The blue, turquoise and red were always decent and you could get good coverage out of them. Two cans would do an engine very nicely. Race Hemi was fair and street hemi sucked and it would easily take 4-6 cans for an engine. However, 12-18 months ago they changed the formula and the last can of hemi orange I used actually covered pretty well.

When I bought my 1968 GTX it came with a 440 and a two cans of the turquoise. Talk about coverage! I can't speak about any of the other colors or the price but it went on great and looks perfect.

The previous owner had already 'coated' the block and rebuilt '906' heads and it makes me wonder how he got it on there so thin. Must have just did one quick coat to make it look good for the photos.

When I did the factory water pump & housing, factory intake, factory oil pan, thermostat housing, brackets, and such it covered awesome and looked even better. I'll have to buy another can and blow one more coat over the block and heads.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize the main complaint was coverage; I was wondering more about its ability to withstand engine heat without flaking off, etc. Sounds like it may be okay in that respect?

I think the biggest problem was the cans clogging and not spraying very well.

Almost every can I got of the MP Hemi Orange paint would not spray at all ! So I used this Dupli-Color paint that works great and looks close enough for me on my 63's eng. Ron

I've never had good coverage with any Mopar engine paint dating back to the 80s (or whenever it was that they came out with them).

My LD340 was painted with mopar paint until I got a fuel leak.

Now the intake looks like an orange Michael Jackson before the rest of his bleaching. Splotches of silver everywhere.
