Engine current config:

X Block, 4.1 Bore, 3.915 stroke, 6.4 MGP Rods, Good roller, ported W2 heads, single plane manifold, 950 Holley.

In my upgrade I will need new pistons and rods. Have not selected pistons, for rods I have a new set of steel Lentz 6.2" rods, and a set of C&A 6.125 Alum rods. Which would you use??

Would it be best to go ahead and stroke futher with a 4.250 stroke crank for a 440ci or stay with the 413ci and upgrade with pistons and rods??

Will go with new cam also but have not decided which grind.

Would you go with the Lentz rods or the C&A alum rods??

Thanks, Max

Looks to be a race car so I would use alum rods. I tune a 406 cuin sb and that made 711 to the rear tires on pump gas with 15lbs of boost. So how much hp are you looking for. With those cubes you can make 1000 with the right supercharger.

I'd go with the steel rods ( I did anyway ). I went with "Icon" IC982KTD step dish pistons which neted me 8.9 CR @ 0 deck and 60cc chambers. Had Comp grind me a solid blower cam #CRS6055/6056S at 114 lsa. Had ProSystems convert my 950 to a blow through. Good luck with your build .

Looking for a little more input. So far split recommendation on Alum vs Steel rods. Also need more input on recommended cubic inches, 413 or 440?? Planning for at least 950hp, want to break into eights even if by just a little bit. Thanks Guys, Max

I went with steel rods for longivity issues more than anything else - plus I only built for a max of 700HP. As far as inches goes, depending on what rpm you plan on operating at, a 4.25 arm my get you in to some pretty high piston speeds? Assume your wall thickness is good ( .2 or more ) at 4.1? Is your roller blower cam specific?

Here is some info from Procharger... it is a Chevy related brochure but some of the general build info should translate over. Page 13...

Don't you think you should upgrade to some better heads?

Here's some other Procharged sb stuff from the YB...

I think steel rods and 413"

I have never been one for real high rpm. I would guess probably crossing the 1/4 at 7000 to 7200 max. I do not as yet have a blower cam but will have one ground. One of the reasons I was considering the 440ci was since I have to buy pistons anyway and I have the rods it wouldn't cost much more to buy a BPE 4.250 stroke crank. BTW longivity sounds good to me also.
Thanks, Max
