Quote: "this is the first time I have had the bearing out of the rods. not so pretty. ???" I don't know if that's bad after 250-300 runs. That's alot of laps. That said, I'm no engine building professional, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn last week. LOL ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif) On the rod bushing issue, I'm thinking too what the P man said: it can really be only 1 thing(my opinion) that the press fit of the bushing into the rod isnt tight enough and for some reason the pin to the bushing has more friction then the bushing to rod... the pin must have been too tight on the fit ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

did u pin fit the rods ? all brand new rods need pin fitted to the piston pins u are useing , even my 1600..00 olivers needed done i put 9 tenths to a little over 1 thou depending on application ,no2 and blown/ turbo need more because they will gauld the pin to the bushing easy !!

440Source told me right up front the pins bushings needed to be honed to fit.

Time to pay your dues to the guy upstairs to stop the hating, that may change your "luck" ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/whistling.gif) Just kidding ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Vern, I sincerely hope it gets better for you and yours ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif) I've seen black spots on the back of the rod bearings and in the rod where the bearing sits caused by detonation ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/1343795-scratchchin.gif) Mainly lack of fuel delivery the last three hundred in the 1/4 mile ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif)

I absolutely agree with Todd on this. I used new Ohio Crankshaft rods on my build a few years ago and took the rods and pistons to my machine shop to have them fitted. They fitted them with approx. .0003" (if I remember correctly) like they do all of their engines (mostly BB Chev). After talking to Todd, I took them back to the shop and ask them to hone them some more, to approx .0008". They didn't want to hone them that much. We settled on approx .0006". No problems so far. They felt like the bushing were being honed to "worn out". My position to the machinist was MY rods, MY bushing, MY engine, MY responsibility. This is not a Chevy. If they are worn out in a season, I'll pay you to put new bushings in then. The problem that you (Jamie) are having is exactly what Todd warned me would happen if they were too tight. Thanks again Todd! ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif) Getting ready to start the 3rd season on this engine. It has been freshened up (bearings, rings, valve springs, ect), rod bushings still good. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/luck.gif)
