Awesome job, Brian!

How do the PRW's compare to the Comps? Are they an exact copy?

Love to see a side by side with a 440-2D on that....484 is it?

It's a 496 cid (4.31x4.25).
The PRW is bushed, and available in 1.6 ratio and are stainless, not chromoly. I like them alot!

Brian do you feel the smaller bore of the 383 hurts performance significantly over lets say a 400 or 440 block, if all things were the same ( stroke, heads, intake, cam specs) the only differnce being the larger bore of the b440 and 400?. I have always wonderd why more people don't build Stroker 383"s. Could you tel us why people seem to forget about the 383 when it comes to building big inch strokers and racing engines. What are the downfalls of it? thanks in advance. If I don't go Stroker smallblock ive always thought about building a big inch 383 but most people I talk to say forget it and go straight to the 400 or 440. Thanks in advance good sir!

Time to paint the intake manifold the same color as the motor, put the coil on the intake and put some stock looking breather caps on it Did you decide to put the wide LSA on the cam for the idle vacume due to the power brakes? Just wondering What is the elevation of your dyno shop? Isn't it right around 20 ft. below sea level?

i'm not brian, but the 400,has thicker main bearing webbing,& the smaller bore of the 383 shrouds the valves more than 400,440

At higher engine speeds the larger bore 400 will work better. But for a real street motor like this one the 383 block works just fine. In fact, the smaller bore size might help reduce detonation a tiny bit.

I tried talking this guy into a 400 block, but he insisted on using his 383! I prefer the larger bore, and I'm sure it's worth some power but I doubt on a build like this it's worth more than 20HP.

I use the wide lca for better vaccum and to spread power out better so there is some girth to the power band. I was held to a very tight budget on this build so my leash kept me from doing more

Yes I agree, smaller bore will curb detonation better than a larger bore. Still like the large bores though...

So, what did a build like this cost the customer?

I love the little 383's. You can pickup complete 383 cores for $50 all over. I just dropped off some stealth heads, .567 roller cam and 1.6 MP rockers for my new 383 to the engine builder this morning.

Mine is very similar except I stayed with a stock stroke, 12 to 1 compression, M1 Single Plane and solid roller cam. The builder is estimating it will make over 500-550 HP but I'm skeptical.

We'll see soon enough.

Congrats on another successful build.

That's cool! Being someone that needs a low deck engine for his Bee, a build similar to this seems very tempting. Don't know if I would stick with a 383. But I would like to.

I will be in touch for a set of hydraulic roller lifters for our 511 in the future. I like these sleeper builds.

With some good headwork I would say over 500 and without just under.
