3200 pound A body
S/S springs and good shocks( well scienced out)
904
4 inch crank
4.100 bore X block( 422)
good light piston/rod combo
10.5-10.75 compression
Airwolf heads
good 1.875 header
Roller cam, along the lines of 650 lift after deflection, 266/272 ish duration@50, tame non seat killing ramps.

proper carb and intake suited to combo, probably trick 950 with super victor ported to match.
Gear suited to combo and 8 inch convertor.
Alternator, electric water pump and fans.

Thoughts?

Could that run 10 flat ish??? or would it need more head or less weight?

Bottom 10's should be pretty achievable with that combo.

I wonder if a 4.125 stroke crank and the extra inches would make better ET, or would it just be a bit more of a tractor?

I'm not sure what say a SB Eddie cc is OOTB (180 ish?) but the Airwolf looks to my semi trained eye to be approx the same size (or slightly bigger) than a BB Eddie. Don't have a side by side with an Indybrock but I doubt it's much larger.

That said it should feed a 440 ish inch small block ( however you get there) fairly well (6500 or so with the right intake). I would be tempted to run the 4.125 with a light crank, Ron Silvia's 501 revved real nice with a 264/268 Bullet HR ( I think the same grind as my 517 Big Block) and I'm not sure his heads were much better than the Airwolfs.

With that compression I would back off on the cam duration to a limit of maybe 260/266 like the Crane cam in Dulcich's Airwolf motor thats in Engine Masters this month. I have that cam and it works really well with Indy 360-2 230 cc at about 11.00 cr. At 272/266 You would be bleeding off too much cylinder pressure. I would bet if you could get the weight down to 3000# it probably would go low 10s consistantly and break into the 9s in good air. Good luck with it,If you do plan on building it please post build and results-Randy

I'd say low 20s or high teens with those heads. I'd think at that ci it would want bigger heads.

I think the Eddie OOTB is 177, if memory serves me right.
Longer stroke yeah, like 6500 shift, 6800 trap, as opposed to 6800 shift 7100-7200 trap with a 4 incher, at least that is what i was thinking

with pump gas still gotta think if those heads are any good should make 630-640 real horespower. Might take mineshaft air or a little squirt to run 10 flat.
maybe by the time i get off my butt Edelbrock will have the alternative available, but i am not holding my breath.

I had a 260/266 flat tappet cam i ran on mildly ported eddies on a 416 and it ran out of breath the last couple hundred feet, ran that same cam after swapping the top end off for ported W5's and the cam was way little(little over 11 to 1)
Your right, 266 might be a hair big, but darn that 220 runner isnt much different than a W5.

If our junk ran 10-teens at 416 cubes, non roller (268/276) cam and RHS heads, your proposed combo should see high 9's @ 132-ish I would think. Key will be if the converter is "right" and it hooks, of course. I LIKE it !

There's P O W E R in them there Air-wooofs according to the newest Engine Master's mag.

Anybody have a link to that engine masters article?
Or is it the same as the dyno flog Bryce posted on here with Dulchich's shortblock?

I bought the pair of heads off that Engine Masters article motor for my 414. The article goes int omuch more detail about the shortblock but not really very much more (than what we have inthe Moparts thread) about the Heads.

Don said his combo ran out of breath on the top end and that's pretty muc what I saw with the SDSS Stage 2's....and that was on only a maiden part-throttle shake-down launch to test the drivetrain, the Airwolfs should give me another 500 rev's of RPM Cieling which is what helped me to pull the trigger. My 414 shortblock is very close to Steve D's 408, I don't have 4 bolt caps so I'm trying to limit the motor to right at 600.

My rocky was set-up with a 4.56 gear and a standard 904, I've switched to a low gear 904 and a 4.10 so I should have a good gear for either 1/8 or 1/4 now.
