I am an ole spiral lock guy so this stuff is a little new.

My pistons take wire locks. So after seeing the nifty tool and wire locks with a little 90 degree tab. I bought some from Precision products. I finally got around to starting the assembly today and realized I only had 8 locks. Surely I am not supposed to put the JE locks on one side and the easy to remove ones on the other side of the pin. Oh well guess I will have to wait a few more days to get this together. Will call her Monday and see about getting 8 more.

sorry spiro locks on one side and the easy wire one on the other. In fact now that I think about this. they got the e-clips/snap ring style on one side ?
So not the same. But just to point out I have seen many with two diff style on the same piston. right or wrong

The pistons are cut for the same lock on both sides. They actually come with the wire locks. These locks are difficult to remove and install. Risking scratching the pin bore in the piston.

So Precision products sells a different lock. Called Kram Lock. It is still wire but has a 90 degree bend on the end which sticks up in the access notch in the pin bore. They have a nifty tool to remove and install the locks. The pin bore I use is not as commom as others so they had to have the locks drop shipped. Carrila is where they actually came from. But, there must have been some miscummunication as I only got 8 locks. Can't see any reason to use the standard lock on one side and then the Kram lock on the other side. Kind of defeats the tool. Just thought I would throw the question out there to see if this is what some where doing.

Again both sides are wire locks. An E clip or Spriral will not fit these grooves. The groove is radius not sqaure.

Well them sounds like the old TRW wire locks. like the old 2295 piston used.

You got it reversed on the old TRW pistons, when they where made in the states they came with Tru Arc retainers, when Federal Mogul moved the manufacturing to India they started using the wire locks I just went through this on a replacement piston for a turbo charged SB Chevy, the old ones have Tru Arcs and no dry film coating on ths skirts, the new pistons have the D.F.L. and wire retainers

With only 8 Kram locks it sounds like you use one wire lock and one Kram lock per piston.

Thought about doing that. But, that sorta defeats the purpose. Why fight the original style lock on one side when you should have enough to do both sides. I think it was just a simple error I didn't catch until I pulled them out of the bag.

www.krammloxusa.com to see the instructional if anyone is interested in using them.

Talked to Debbie Jackson at PPP center today. Turns out I ordered eight locks. Needed 16 guess we had a communication misunderstanding. She sent me what I needed to get me going. I have to give her a thumbs up as she was very good to deal with.

I met her father back in the late 90's when I had a cam tunnel cut for 50 mm and everyone there was great to work with.

Just can't say enough good things about my experiences dealing with Precision Products Performance Center.
