The mirrors are a pain disassemble. They have a splined shaft that presses into a hole on the passenger side. The drivers side is difficult dealing with the remote cable. I think if I had to do it again, and BE/A parts had been around then, I would of rather bought the repros.

Soak them in a gallon of thinner until the glass falls .
Grab the mirror housing with the rounded part in your palm and smack the front of the housing on a piece of wood and the inner splined piece will come out . Take out one screw and that's it .

does soaking in thinner do anything to the silvered backside of the glass?

I want to try and disassemble my mirrors but just dont have the stones to try and end up breaking the glass.

Getting the passenger side apart is easy once the glass is out - that's the hard part

I just did the mirror soaking deal a few weeks ago and Lacquer thinner does not harm the silver backside. I set mine in a shallow glass bowl (don't tell the wife...) and even in 40 degree garage temperatures the mirror fell out of the housing right around the 24 hour mark. I did mine to tighten up the pivot mechanism. I cleaned up the glass really good with alcohol and mixed up some 5-minute epoxy and let it set up over night - all good!!

Yes Thanks Jim and everyone else.

Now I just need to find an inexpensive used set.

One more thing I can add, not sure if all models of mopar mirrors were made the same way but somehow in my mind I thought I would just soak the mirror then tighten up the pivot and re-glue the mirror...kinda like my rear view mirror... Once I got the glass off (68 B-body manual mirror) I discovered that the factory pivot plate was not screwed on but instead it was swagged (not sure if correct term) on. The mirror body had two posts inside and the plate that the pivot ball rubs on was held in place with no adjustment provision. I ended up using a die grinder to work off the mushroomed part and release the plate. I then ground the two studs as flat as I could and drilled/tapped them out for 10-32 screws about 1/4" long. I tighened up the screws with a little lock-tight and the pivot is now very firm. After that it was clean the glass and epoxy in place.
Not sure if all mopar mirrors are made the same way but at least that is how mine was. Good Luck.

Jim
