We are currently running an M-1 intake manifold on a 340 small block but I want to try a different intake possibly for testing next year! Anyone compare the M-1 to any other intakes and seen any gains? This is an all out drag car only no street use!

I love the LD340 I have used and ran strip dom /street dom/ Dual plane M 1 and the edelbrock dual plane.The ld with 4 hole is tough to beat on the street.

Its a all out drag car,not street driven.

i belive that it would be alot easier for most to give good recomendations if you told us more about your whole build

It's an unknown parts motor basically is what we are dealing with. At the moment I know that it has roughly a 560 lift mechanical flat tappet cam, Ductile iron rockers, 8 bolt crank, w2 heads. I am pretty sure it is a standard bore and stroke. There is supposed to be trw 13:1 pistons. I am not sure what the heads flow or what real valve size it has but it's post to be 2.08 int. valves. Also post to be ported but won't know untill we take heads off! It currently has 1 5/8 headers which may be a bit small and they are built like crap! We also have a 750 cfm proform street series carb that is junk because we did to much messing with it. From when we had the oil pan off looked like steel rods and pretty much just a stock oiling system with a 7 qt home made oil pan. Other then that that's pretty much all I can tell you on the engine combo.. The car itself is a 1963 plymouth valiant. It's pretty lite weighs about 2600 on the dot wo/d and 2800 w/d. It has a 904 tranny with a turbo action valve body. 8 3/4 rear end. Either going with a 5.13 or 4.86 gear for next yr. Torque converter is just a TCI 10" 4000 stall that really isn't correct for the combination by any means but that's what we have to work with at the moment!

As said, you have to take it apart at least enough to find out where your at. Don't know why someone would want to bolt on a set of 1 5/8" headers on a set of ported W2's w/ 2.08" intake valves. Cam and 750 carb aint matchin up too well ether.

You have MULTIPLE things wrong for your set up..but
we also need to know the RPM you turn it to... you
should be up in the revs.... if you are then your
headers are too small, carb is too small and its likely
your cam is too small.... this is based on a W-2
head with a 2.08 valve... sure they may not be a
set of maxed out heads but they should be real close
to 300cfm(maybe more, maybe a little less)... and
for your engine that M1 shouldnt be a bad intake...
the intake isnt your choke point

Instead of swapping out - your time or $ might be better spent cleaning up the M1 plenum.

They are pretty diabolical in "as cast" condition....lots of sharp edges on the dividers.

I like the m1 for 340 cubic inches. I think it broadens the torque a little more than the victor. And peak performance is very similar.

Did you consider using Weiand Xcelerator?

I would think that 1 3/4 header would be a min starting point if you plan on turning over 6k rather than a intake change

I hear ya guys! The headers are off the car now and building another set! Thinking 1 7/8 would work nice! If I posted a pic of the headers that we ran on the car you would want to lol. I plan on buying probaly a 950 holley hp. I have 2 intake spacers to try. I am thinking it might be better off with the 1 inch open wood spacer instead of the 2 inch open aluminum but will know over the summer when we try them both back to back! We are going to go through everything and make sure everything is leggit what ever is not is getting pitched! Other then that will just try and keep tweaking the combo untill we hit a sweet spot!

I hear ya! We just might have to do that!!! It's alot cheaper and we don't even know if the intake is port matched. Will know when we take it off and if it needs port matched there could be a couple hp there! Also like you said cleaning up the plenum! When I took the carburetor off from my understanding it doesn't look like the plenum hasn't been touched!

To tell you the truth Mr P Body I have no idea what kind of rpms we will be trying to turn? I know this combination calls for alot of rpm but our set up really isn't rpm friendly at the moment IMO.. The engine has been close to 7800 rpm but since we have such weak valve spring pressures it doesn't like it so much. Our highest valve spring on the seat was only like 112 lbs.. SO we would deffiently have to change valve springs, oiling system, possibly cam and all of the buttons in the engine that holds everything together! I would love to put the 5.13 gears I have sitting in the box and go racing but I don't know what rpm it's going to turn. It has some what of a tight converter and 29.5x10.5 hoosiers that measure 30.6 tall and 11.1 wide. Circumfrence is 96" at 10 lbs and 96 1/2" at 11 lbs. A few people think we are only going to go through at 6800-7200 rpm and some people think 8000 rpm..

Revving the crap out of it isn't going to make you necessarily faster. Those springs won't like past 5500-6000 if you have 3/8" stem valves.
The M1 for W2 heads is water heated, it's not the best intake for a stroker, but I don't see it being too much of an hindrance on your engine.
As Mike pointed out, you have a bunch of other issues with your combination that you should be worrying about.

Make a list, test at the track, Record your data.

That's probaly what the valve stems are is 3/8 but will know for sure hopefully next weekend! Yep going to go through and find all the issues and correct everything to the best of our ability and run her and see what happens! I appreciate all the help and info everyone provides on here! Alan, MoPar has W2 intakes that are not water heated. The unit that is water heated is considered there street strip.
