Besides give it to someone!!!

Can't decide what to do with my 68 Road Runner that is a strip/street car with 8 point roll bar, race seats,no back seat and mild drivetrain that pushes it to 10.90'S in the 1/4...

It's a 383 4-spd post car that's not been cut up and i have all the stock/factory parts with the exception of seats to put it back stock.
Engine is not #'s matching tho...

OR..

Do i cage it,cal track it,dana 60 it and install a fresh 493" lowdeck stroker with indy sr heads that made 780hp on the pump set up for spray just hanging out on the engine stand...

OR..

Just leave as is to rot away under the car cover over in the corner of the garage...I think i'm ready for a change as i've owned it since 96 and basically like it sets..

What say you !!!!

if you are tired of it, sell it and build somthing else. or park it and build something else. or cut it up, or restore it.

You have left a big open ended question without parameters, budget, time comstraints, how you plan on using it, is there a drag strip near you ect. ect. ect.

It's your car, enjoy it as you see fit! Removing a cage later is not that big of a deal. CalTracs are a bolt on. You have the motor..... Do you see where I'm going with this?????

I have the same dilemma with my '69 - infact its even the same color as yours !! The car has no significant value restored and would likely cost 3 times its value to restore anyhow. Do whatever will give you the most pleasure!

Put the 493 in it and have some fun with it. You already have the car and the motor. Might as well get some use out of both.

Install the 493, don't cut/hack on it, and only spray if it needs a little more help to get that warning at the track (9.99 time slip.)
Have another sets of tires and make all the lights function. Friday night, cruise!
That's what I'd do...

All lights, signals, wipers work and it has a alternator already...Also i have a new set of M/T 275 drag radials in the box(not the new pro series)how do these work on the street ?

Looks like most like the 493 idea and i have been leaning that way already, just not sure!

What a great looking car! That's probably the nicest 68 Runner I've ever seen. You asked for opinions so here is mine, I would not do anything more to it that would remove it from stock. I might tweak it a bit to make it faster but I wouldn't cut or weld anything else on it. 10.90 for a stock looking ride like that is a fun car anyway.
I loved project six pack the way it was, when they redid that car they did a beautiful job on it but I sure don't like it as much as I did before.

The majority agree with my thoughts; don't cut it up or do anything reversible. If you really want to know what to do, start writing about your "favorite Roadrunner", and see what comes out on paper. Then create what your pen said.

Drive it as is. If you put the big motor in, you'll have to change the 833 4 speed to a Jerico or, God forbid, ruin it by putting an automatic tranny in it.

Bad news guys..........it's already an automatic.........

"My 68 Road Runner weighs 3385# without driver..

Old school 440 shortblock..11.5 trw's-6pak rods-stock crank..
eddy heads w/stage11 port by Nick at compu-flow..
600ish flat tappet comp cam specked by Nick..
M1 strip dominator intake with a 1050 carb..
hooker 2" headers thru 3-1/2" flow masters..

9" dynamic convertor (4500 stahl)..

727 trans..
4.10 8 3/4 rear..
s.s. springs..
11 X 29 slicks..
Runs 10.90'S and 6.90'S"

I'd trade you my TWO 69 B-bodies but you should just keep it and upgrade to the 493.
My 69 Rr is a low option 383/4-speed and to me it's worth more modified and fast than it is slow & stock. Non-#'s matching means go for it.

493, Cal-Tracs, Dana, a set of seats for more comfort, drag radial, and start racking up some street miles. Would be a GREAT street car and en even better smoke machine when the hammer is dropped!

Whoever said RRs aren't worth much should try buying something decent for less than $15K. I see completely stripped 2-door B-bodies going for $5K, at least they are advertised as such.

Or maybe I'm searching on another planet?

R.

Yep, especially if it runs on pump gas, or sell it to someone who'll actually take it as is and have fun with it.

It reminds me of a cross between my Challenger (mid-10 second pump gas street car) and the original 440-6 '69 Road Runner I used to have... I like it!

Whatever you want to do with it, and then drive the heck out of it. It wouldn't be that hard to remove what you put in, if you are worried about resale later on. Just don't cut it up. and then

Don't worry about "the bird". A rumor started by him states that he sold his car.

Do this. Go to my website and find out how. You're not that far away and it's a heck of a lot of fun. There's enough stock road runners out there already.

OUCH!!! ..Nothing has been done that can't be changed back easilly...Actually had been following the passion 5-spd deal and when it was taking so long i kinda moved on...

What i like...
Put the 493 in...
Passion 5-spd if available...
Dana 60...
Do something with the seats...
Year One 17" magnums...
Then enjoy...

I am in full support of this plan.

Leave it as it is, speed and ETs are addictive. Don't get caught in that trap. Cosmetic, comfort or durability only.

Looks to be a good 2013 Drag Week Candidate

Set it up to be a comfortable open road car with A/C, an overdrive, extensive sound deading treatments and some suspension and braking upgrades. Then drive it on road trips to some cool Mopar car shows around the country.

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

I would keep it as a street strip car, but definitely put the big motor in it and perhaps just a 6 point cage and make a drag week car out of it.
You could always cut the cage out later and restore it.
