anyone here care to barrel roll a 2008 or newer 10 second hard top across the guard rail at 135 mph?

what a joke, now nhra who makes us throw out belts that there's nothing wrong with is willing to throw safety into the wind for financial concerns

I'm using my outdated SFI belts to hold my trans blanket on.

Sounds reasonable to me! A lot of modern cars can run faster than 11.5 in factory trim now-a-days. Plus there are hardly any accidents at a drag strip. It’s a straight line!!!! Most of the bad situations happen from ratty cars and huge wheel stands. Or pro-mod type cars that have way more power than the builders have the know how to put a proper chassis under them!

And the seat belt rule is just a money grab. Has nothing to do with safety.

Being that they say they're safe( a factory car) and
to be honest they are pretty damn safe due to crash
standards(50 mph now) and also have roll over and
crush standards...but now I will ask ... can they
still run the factory seat belts at 10.0... I'm not
sure if they make you change them

Keyword there is "unaltered". As soon as somebody adds N2O, a blower, or any other performance enhancing modification I figure all bets are off and it's rollbar time.

I'm thinking they mean a unaltered body/chassis...
and do what you want on the factory engine but you cant
go quicker than 10.0... its the body and chassis that
makes the newer cars safer... the 301 standard has
gone up over the years... now its 50 mph frontal impact

You might want to youtube some corvette and mustang track rentals before sticking with that statement

I've been going to drag strips for nearly 30 years. A couple anecdotal examples on YouTube isn't going to change my mind. I've seen far worse stuff on public roads!

This was my first thought. The factory seat belts are not going to be a bunch of help if bad things happen much past 1/4 track.
I have to disagree with the notion that these cars are not prone to crashing too......though it is nearly always the driver who makes it happen , but they brody with regularity.
At least as frequently as " rat cars ' and probably for the same reasons. Sure , it doesn't happen every week......but it do happen.

I disagree with you on the stock belts... we did/do
ALOT of testing on them and between the air bags and
the belt... your staying in the seat... the only thing
that might happen(and we tested this also) was to slide
downward and get under the belt and then you get wadded
up under the dash... the only time we would see this
was on a VERY SMALL driver(only the little women test dummy)
EDIT
and that was a lose lap belt

I agree with the concept of a single car racing, crashing and being safe.

The problem is when they line up next to somebody else thats has different rules..
I never run my car against a car that is not prepared like mine for the saftey of both of us.

85 mph and hit an 8 point buck with a 2012 Challenger and totalled it.All damage was in the right front.Right front fender crumpled like it should and the pass. side door had no damage.Set off 4 of 6 air bags. There was a sensor at the front that automatically retracted my seat belt.It WORKED.The air bag in the steering wheel did not come close to hitting me in the face.I asked the body guy why are there air bags in the dash. His response was."For people that dont wear seat belts" Safety has come a LONG way.10 second car I dont know.NHRA is always about fleecing the customer.Maybe they did their homework?

LOL, we run through mid to low 8 second "street cars" maybe some high 7's without cages at local grudge events.

After doing some reading, this looks to be a series specific exemption and not a free pass for all 2008+ cars at all events/series. Additionally, the track tech is going to have the last say in what is allowed to run or not.
