My mostly-street driven 727 has a reverse manual valve body and no low band apply. Since I kind of like my right foot, I'll be shopping for a trans blanket in the next few days. I'm assuming that most can be installed without dropping the transmission. Is this correct? I've read about temperature issues in the past, but has anyone had any serious issues on strip cars or VERY limited mileage street cars? Also, I've been looking at Cope's trans blankets. Are there any other ones that I should take a look at? Thanks in advance for any help.

Cant answer your question but I am in the same boat. My 63 is a 99% street car and I want to put a trans blanket on it this year also. Ron

I ended up ordering one from Lofgren ($99). My car isn't fast enough to need one that is SFI-approved, so I decided to save myself a few dollars. From what I've read, they fit great.

a cautionary tale- a friend had a stock drum blow, evaporated the case (of course), broke the carbon fiber shield, and then came through the floor to get him. he didn't race for a few years after that. regardless of whether you use a blanket or a shield (i prefer a blanket), get a billet drum in it. i installed my blanket with the trans in situ, and i do extended street sorties in 100 + degree weather- no issues whatsoever.
for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I bought a used Lofgren after he quit making the SFI spec ones, I ended up buying a RCI full circumference SFI approved one for my car. I have atrans temperature gauge in the tarns in the front servo, it doesn't run any warmer in the summer now than it did before adding the blanket I did have a ten inch custom built street and strip converter in the car before the installing the blanket, I broke that converter and put in a T/A 8 inch race converter so maybe that has something to do with the trans temps, it doesn't get above 225 F ever, usually below 160 F I do have small four row(loops) standard aluminum tranny cooler mounted in front of the radaitor

This was the Lofgren blanket we had on the Mirada. Still run one on the Duster.
I have this also on my 67 Belvedere. It requires the trans to be lowered at the crossmember to install. A-body trans tunnel is more forgiving/ roomy.
